I purchased a flymore package.  I am very surprized that there is NO cable connection between the remote and the viewing device.  It only uses wi-fi.  All other DJI drones have a cable.  I guess the remote is a wi-fi booster.

Yeah it is a wifi repeater in a way. However, I saw some video on youtube proving that you can use the micro usb port to connect to your phone. You need to find a microusb to lightning cable. Like the one comes with mavic or using an adapter. Check this

Idiotic of DJI not to supply a $2 cable for androids. Apple's lightning cable maybe a different story due to licensing. But still... a OTG cable would have sufficed.  
I still don't understand why DJI omitted the RC's ports capabilities - why not tell the world that it can output from the DJI go app.

And another point.. didnt anyone at DJI do a field test the spark with an everyday phone and find out that the phone's wifi was killing the RC's wifi's output??

No!  you need an OTG to mini USB cable and all problem solve.  Wireless connection between remote and phone device is a bad idea, don’t know who came up with that?  Nice going DJI engineer.

It works for the latest and the future firmware. DJI support confirmed.

I tried last night with all latest firmware and version.  The direct cable connect still work for both IOS and android devices.

I'll have to give that a try.  When flying the Spark today with the remote the image on my mini iPad was remarkably worse than image on the screen when using my MAVIC.

Gave it a test using a cable connection to a mini iPad.  iPad Wifi was connected to my home network.  After powering up there was no picture on the iPad however after unplugging and replugging the image came on and I was able to fly.  Screen image remained crisp so this is the way I will connect in the future.

Hi guys, may I ask what kind of cable you use to connect to the ipad mini? I was equally surprised to not be able to directly connect the spark to the remote.

A regular USB cable will not work. You need an OTG cable that allows the device to be a host. Should be available on Amazon for a few dollars!

Just buy a reg OTG cable and a USB-lightning cable and connect them together.  I just ordered these:

Connecting the Controller to a iPhone 6 Plus works perfect every time for me, and is so much better, the video feed has very little delay.
