Did anyone try the stuff on github? Seems promising... But quite a process for someone tech challenged like myself.

The range in eu sucks.
Dji must not advertise 2000 meter. In real life its only max 200 meter.
Its a dji problem and must be fixt.  Its misleading and can take them to court. That also the low here.  Its sucks anyway.

I've got 500m with a similar setup he says he used for that flight.
He's full of sh-t. No way he could fly that far away without mods.

until DJi just gives stuff to us, modding is what some of us will have to resort to.

but yea this guy or gal in the video definitely is using mods.  if that was all open area with no buildings or trees or structures, sure 3KM is maybe possible with force FCC mod.  

No. I feel absolutely cheated by DJI with this thing. It's impossible to get more than 100m even with RC and OTG cable, wifi and bluetooth OFF here in Hong Kong. Even in the outskirts where there's basically very low congestion. I didn't buy a drone that can barely lift off before losing connection. I know the difference between CE and FCC range and whatnot. But 100m (300 ft) is child's play. No need to buy a remote controller. And it's not like I'm the only one...

Im very happy with my spark, love flying it, but im also a little disappointed by the range.
I get about 200m before i start getting problems. Either the Video is so laggy, its basically impossible to film or i lose connection.
I have the RC (mostly in 5.4,ghz but i have tried a 2.4ghz a few times). Im flying in nature, so very little interferences, but quite a few trees. Im using iphone 6s.

As to what some have said that its illegal to fly further anyways and its best to stay in line of sight and that the distance is great already. All of you are right, but still if DJI brags about how far the spark can go (2km) then it should at least go half the distance in normal circumstances!! I knew it would not do the full 2km, but i did expect to at least go 1km when im in nature, but i havent even gotten close to that either...

I love this drone. But the connection to rc sucks. I am currently living in japan. I tried flying mine in many different places. I can barely break 100m. At 50m the video is really lags. Since i am using in japan I don't have the 5.8GHZ option.

I installed the modded dji app to my phone. It forces the spark into fcc mode. I was able to switch my freq to 5.8ghz in japan. I was able to get 800m distance and 200m high with this setup.

no offense but DJI clearly states that in Europe you have a max of 500 meters with 2.4 and 300 with 5.8(due to local regulations). i doubt very much you will win in the courtroom, a large company like DJI have all of these things worked out already and the wordplay in their advertisements alone will get them out of a lawsuit. let alone all their other safety measures for these circumstances.

I haven't tried otg yet but I'm loseing video feed already at alt 70-80m at distance 40m. Can't go any higher and I was flying close to a beach far from any buildings. I hope it it will improve with otg.

I have many difficulties using wifi.  OTG has worked great/fantastic/wonderful most of the time.  I very rarely fly using wifi.

The Sparks range has not been too bad actually, has anyone tried these for range improvement ? People said they where good on the Mavic ...  http://amzn.to/2uERAS7

Got 2.1km today in the UK. Would have gone further but battery low. Perfect video throughout

You need to switch wifi to 2.4ghz and manually select a channel with the lowest interference. Yes it's a pain but that's how you get a great connection each time. I didn't have any aerial mods and didn't have the phone in airplane mode - was using the OTG cable

Perfectly happy with the range. DJI says 500 m in CE (I'm in Sweden), and yesterday I reached this distance without any video lag at all.
I also tried to reach max altitute allowed in Sweden, which is 120 m. No problem at all.

DJI do something with the range in CE regions  or there will be big wave of hate, disappointment and return in CE regions. It is hard to get 100- 200 m range without issues (no signal , aircraft disconnected) . The range is horrible using RC. Can't change to 2,4 frequency  because there is lost of connection between Phone-RC and have to use OTG cable. OTG doesnt solve the probklems with range.

Not to sound too much like the "safety police", but at least in the USA aren't you supposed to keep your drone in visual range while flying?  Who can see this tiny thing past a few hundred yards let alone the  2 km (~2,200 yards) supposed range with the remote control?   Not me...then again my eyesight isn't perfect either.  

I would be curious as to how far other folks can truly see their spark.  Obviously its going to depend on eyesight, weather conditions, lighting, etc.

When I first got my spark with the remote the signal was rubbish to say the least. I then I watched a video saying you should not turn on your drown or remote indoors as this reduces the wifi range as the remote can not connect to the gps and then sets up the spark for indoor flight. They also said you need to rebind the remote to the spark outside. Hold down the spark battery button for 3 seconds until you hear the single bleep then hold down the two front buttons on the front of the remote either side of the sport mode switch and the c button on the front right lower the remote (all three together) you will hear a bleep and the lights on the remote will start flashing after 15 to 30 seconds they will turn green when paired. All done you will find the spark will now be able to fly further. Please watch this video for more info ( go to 4:30 - 5:30 for the remote binding procedure ). Hope this helps

I somewhat managed to go even a little beyond the 500m for 2.4 GHz in Europe, but it's not so deterministic. I feel too like I've been tricked somehow; stating to have a 2 km range while in Europe is less than 1/4 of that is bad. For the Mavic this difference is way lower (7km for FCC and 4km for CE against 2km for FCC and 0.3-0.5 km for CE for spark)

Can you even see the little spark flying at 200m?

i have gotten 865 meters away so far! the image was just as good as if it was 10 meters away. i did not use OTG

Yes, you can see the spark at 200m...
As mine is white, when I start to turn around, I can see right away when it is facing me.At 200m appears on the APP, aircraft disconnected ...
Is it just the software?
I'm flying in a Class C zone.
I have to test elsewhere.

That is too bad. I will investigate more before I buy how this is in The Netherlands.

mine goes to 100 meters only and i lost connection to my spark. guess what....  it felt down

Sure this is one of the 'shortcomings' of a Spark in Europe (I believe it is called CE region) where we get a max of 500m

2 km is possible.
From today:

I'd like to fly further but still scared to fly further than 400meters, but I'm limited by law in the Netherlands.

The question is:
Can you fly (much) further over the legal distance limit?
Without tricking Spark into FCC Mode, instead of CE, p.ex?
As long you fly with with GPS, Spark gets the max distance info from your location.
I would not expext my Spark to fly 2 km far somewhere in Europe
Without switching off the CE recognicion.
