It has always worked by pressing the power button 5 times, but now doing that actually powers on the drone.
Am I missing something?

I have refreshed the latest firmware and done all the things I can see to do. Very untimely as I have to fly out west with the drone in 2 days and both cases I have are travel mode cases.

After all that... flying it a few times jerked in somehow back into working.

The only thing I can think of is to make sure your VPS is totally clean. Inspect it... Maybe blow it out with some dry air (carefully)

Unlike Inspire 1，Inspire 2 doesn't rely on VPS sensors to transform.
So my suggestion is try to enter travel mode, if LED on aircraft goes blue, that means your operating is correct( dont forget to take gimbal off).
If Inspire still not responding,you can turn the landing gear manually using a screwdriver( try the hole underneath the aircraft and remember to power off).

What DJI-Newbie said is exactly correct, transformation of Inspire 2 doesn't reply on VPS any more, please spin the slotted screwdriver which locates underneath the drone with screwdriver to check if the steer got stuck, please let us know if this helps.
