hi,

I am looking for a method to track an object but from a still position.  Because there are trees around and I don't want the spark to hit them.
How can I achieve that ?
is it even possible ?

thanks.

Are you stating that the object you want to track is stationary (not moving)?

I think he is asking just the opposite.....the Spark to track a moving object but the Spark doesn't move.

You are looking for Active Track - Spotlight.
Unfortunately the spark doesn’t support this mode.

I assumed...that's why I posed that question to the OP

Unfortunately the spark doesn’t support this mode.

I know that is called Spotlight on the Mavic.
and I know that it is not available on Spark.
But is there anything close to that ?
what is the best approach to track an object without moving spark (or with minimal move) ?
there is a tripod mode but I don't know what it does.

Tripod mode just makes all moves very smooth and slow. Not what you are looking for.
As far as i know the spark doesn’t have a function (until now) for you request.

Can I ask you a question?  What happens once the object moves either under, behind, far left or far right of the Spark?  Better yet...beyond the Spark's range.

It just focuses on the marked object and hold it in the frame with the pitch of Gimbal and yaw of aircraft.

I'm no Einstein...but how on earth can a stationary object (i.e. Spark) track a moving object ?

That I'm aware of...though just the mere mention of the word yaw indicates movement.

It (the Mavic) doesn’t move on X and Y, it only turns around the Z axis.
Maybe this will help you to understand

We're on the same page...though the word "turns" is indicative of movement

The threadstarter don’t want to hit trees.. how you should hit a tree when only using yaw as a movement?

You're correct...I believe that I got "hung up" on the words "still position" that the OP used in his opening sentence, which I thought meant "non-movement".  My bad!

I am lost with these comments. If the drone does not move on X_Y and just "turns" that means it is still in a way that it won't hit anything around.
so that would be what I am looking for. But how can I achieve that ?

Unfortunately you can’t archive this with the spark (at the moment).

You may be able to achieve this by doing the following:

1. Go into active track mode
2. Select the subject you wish to track (tap or drag a box)
3. DO NOT CLICK GO (The object should be tracked but the craft will not trace or profile)
4. This works on the Mavic but have not tried on the Spark yet. Give it a go and let us know.

Perfect, happy to hear it works on the spark too. I accidentally stumbled across this when first learning how to trace (I didn't know you had to click "GO" on the green box to get it to move.) I guess for spotlight the only difference is you click "GO" after selecting the object to track (keeping it consistent with the other tracking modes) But it is essentially already in spotlight at first when you select the object and before clicking "GO".

Put it on active track and do not click go. That way it will only rotate and look at you, but it will not move.
