Hi all, going out to the States next week from the UK to SoCal and then Texas and was thinking of taking my Mavic. Are there any specific rules about flying in these US States that peole know of as i can only see specific restrictions about commercial use?  Cheers.

Here's a link to a web site where you can check the laws for specific states: State Drone Laws

The FAA has a free app called B4UFly. This is a good app that shows where not to fly.

Thanks for all the info guys, really helpful.

I'll be going to North San Diego area but only for a day so hope to get a bit of time flying early morning and evening. Hopefully get some decent video off the beach.

Just had a look on the app and it may be a no go as I'll be in Carlsbad area and there appear to be a lot of restricted zones!

Also be careful of flying in national parks, drones are not allowed (see http://thedronegirl.com/2017/02/02/drone-national-park-presidio/ for an example). Also a good site to use is https://app.airmap.io/
