as far as I understand, the video uses only a sub-part of the CCD array inside te camera (area of interest cropping)
When switching to photo mode, the full sensor is used and this gives the impression that the field of view is wider.
Would it be technically possible to have a "wide angle video" by "grouping pixels" (2x2) instead than cropping the area of interest ?

They do this to implement digital stabilization (crop/zoom and stabilize the center) to mask the lack of a 3 axis gimbal.

It would be nice to have the option to turn off that stabilization for a wider fov...
