My spark stops at 100m from the home point, even in follow me mode, and I am not in beginner mode.
However the maximum distance setting cannot be disabled or edited.
How can we disable the max distance limit?

At the moment this is not possible. Dji already knows about this problem.

Thanks for the reply... !    Damn that is really annoying.  I sincerely hope they fix this soon, because the main reason I bought the drone was for follow me when mountain biking!!

Same for me. The ability to track yourself without a connected device was THE reason to buy this little boy...
But I think Dji will fix this problem in a future update. They have just to add a dynmaic Homepoint setting. (And this is nothing new in the Go App)

No limit with Rc.. only if you set one.
