I just recently picked up a Spark in Australia, unfortunately the place I got it from does not have the RC's in yet, so I just have the basic pack for the moment.

I have been having a lot of fun with the drone so far, gestures take a little bit of getting used to, but seem to work pretty well with practice.

Flying with the phone app has also been good, I feel like I can get a decent distance with the app.

The only issue I have at the moment is that the drone top speed at the moment is only about 10 km/h.
Is this because the phone app is limited?  and the higher speeds are only available with "sport" mode?
Does the spark fly any faster via the remote without using sport mode?

Yes, you can go faster with the RC using sport mode or disabling obstacle avoidance.
