I have the fly more package with three battery charger.
Today I went to charge spark with micro usb directly via wall charger.
I tried two WALL CHARGERS (one was the little white Apple iPhone 6 wall charger).
Both times, after about 10min the wall charger got HOT AS HELL and the Spark was fairly warm and it stopped charging.
I tried it with a bigger 5 port Anker wall charger and it worked.. but the Spark and wall charger were pretty warm.

Anyone have any other experience with charging unit directly?
If so, what wall charger are you using with the Micro USB cord?

I used the mico usb just to top up a battery.  It was blinking 3 LEDs.  Still it took hours.  Note if you buy just the Spark wo flymore you get a wall plug charger that uses the micro usb port on the Spark.

You need a charger with  high current (amps) output

PC USB 5 Volt 0.5 amp
Iphone 5 Volt  1 amp
Ipad      5.1 Volt 2.1 amp

Specs Spark mini USB charger 5 V/3 A; 9 V/2 A; 12 V/1.5 A

SO, Ipad charger can do the job, Iphone will take a long time (hot or even not working)

In addtion (too late to edit previous post):

The combo hub output is 3.8 Amps, is why 2 batteries take same time as one (approc 55 mins), 3 batteries is taking approx 82 mins

Don’t forget to mention that the spark is QuickChare 3.0 compatible. So the fastest way to charge the battery in the spark is with 12V and 1,5A. Takes about 70min for a full charge.

The iPad pro charger works better than the charger that came with the spark, it doesn't get hot like the iPhone or the OEM charger and will charge your spark in less time. More time flying, less time charging-more fun. ( there's a self proclaimed physics major that throws a bunch of fancy numbers around that are meaning less) so try the iPad pro charger, the 29 watt version, and you will be pleasantly surprised...

After a flight I plugged it into my Quick Charge 3.0 portable battery pack, and it charged in around an hour. Obviously both pack and battery were warm, but nothing too alarming.

Before the thread derails :-)

The Ipad Pro charger isn't the charger delivered with your Ipad Pro,but need to be purchased seperate

Standard DJI (Fly Less) is 12v 1.5
Ipad Pro (29 Watt) 12v 2.4A (?), based on 14.5V - 2A apple  specs

Ipad Pro seems able to have a 60% higher output.. BUT:

Charging your battery to fast can damage your battery or reduce life-time!

If you have the fly more combo, the charger hub is able to supply 12v 3.8A, but still will take approx 53 mins to charge 1 battery and 2 will take approx 55 mins..

I assume is safety measure, as theoretically one battery can be load in 27 mins

Did some research, but unable to find more specifics about battery, but assume is 1C or close (or 2C with safety margin)...

Spark battery is 1480mAh, so if 1C max. charge 1.5A, but notice that hub is charging at higher rate

if you charge with 2C, isn;'t meaning will be twice as fast.

As mentioned before, if you want to increase lifetime of your batteries, load according the specs... Easier buy hub and more batteries..

Just to clarify.. The 29w charger can only charge with 14.5V OR 5.2V. There is no 12V option. And 12V is what the QC3.0 need.

Apart from this he was talking all the time about the 12w version.
He has no clue  what volts and amps mean.Just read this.... ouch

Hello, I'm a new DJI Spark owner and this is my first ever drone. I have never flown before. So far, I really like it a lots. I have a fly more combo. I was wondering If I can use a power bank to charge with CHARGING HUB so I can charge 2 battery at the same time?

No, the usb port on the hub is for fw updates only. If you want to charge the battery with a powerbank you have charge it in the spark.

The batteris are updated via the app or the assistant 2.
The usb port is for updating the hub's FW. (No update available at the moment)

I didn't hurt my batteries any, lipo batteries can discharge and also be charged at a high rate. As long as they don't exceed 145 degrees Fahrenheit then no worries.

I am using the the blackweb 4 port 6.8A wall charger from walmart a cheap usb charger with two 2.4 amp ports and works great. Charging is super fast and doesn't get warm, the spark however while charging directly thru USB does get quite warm so i am not charging it directly anymore.
