I used to be a Phantom guy and it was the only drone I ever even considered until the Mavic came out. It's all about the portability for me. You can't go hiking comfortably with a Phantom and honestly some of the best shots require you to get out there a bit. Plus the quality is phenomenal and only slightly behind the Phantom.

Had mine for a couple days and its even better than i thought it would be !
I had a phantom standard for 10 months for my first drone and that served me well, my P3 was bulletproof ,but this Mavic makes me  feel like I just got out from driving a diesel taxi and got in to a Maclaren F1 lol

Easy to fly and with some setup gives both great video and stills.

If your co-worker is going to purchase a drone, I would have them do some research on current models available and chose one that suits their needs and price affordability.  However, as you can see with the DJI's latest firmware update, many users are having connectivity issues, Geo-fencing and NFZ restrictions, I would cautiously advise to look into other manufacturers.  DJI has some of the best top of the line products, but flight errors and flight restrictions are becoming more problematic for recreational users.

No I wouldn't - I received my Mavic this morning at 11.00 a.m. Looking forward to "flying it out of the box within minutes" (after charging RC and battery of course). 3 1/2 hours later and after trying both an android tablet and an iPad Air 2 I was no further towards flying my drone that when it first arrived. Connection problems all the way through - and who would guess that the password is hidden underneath the battery!  Customer support was dreadful -( or maybe I was just unlucky to get an idiot - I explained my problems and his response was "I see" followed by silence. The rest of his responses were all omosyllables and one photo showing me how to connect an iPad. He then had the cheek to ask about the quality of his service. I have now successfully boxed up the Mavic ready for a return to the shop. Will probably swap it for something that's more fun like ado it yourself tooth extractor.

There are quality control issues.

Most of crashes were pilot errors that what I told in this forum.

A lot is going to depend on what he wants it for.
If portability is the main factor then mavic wins.
If image quality is the main factor then the high end P4 wins by a mile.
Im struggling to see where the spark with an even worse camera, less range and so on fits into it at all.

Definitely would recommend the Mavic
