Evening everyone,

I am going to buy a new Apple iPad but need to know can I get the wifi model or is LTE required. I thought I read somewhere that you need the LTE model.

I got a wifi, worst case scenario I can always use the hot spot on my phone to gain access to internet.

Both will work, but the wifi only version will have 2 limitations I can think of...

1. You won't be able to get the map details for the map mode without a LTE connection.
2.  I think the wifi only iPads do not have GPS in them.  So if you need to do a RTH to your current location, not where it took off from, the wifi only iPad won't be able to tell it your current location.

Wifi only iPad don't have the gps chipset... while the cellular version is a little more money, it is worth it as you get full gps, not just for flying, but for any navigation need.

The RTH feature has nothing to do with the device you are using.  That GPS sensor is in your aircraft.

not necessarily  if you continuously refresh the rth ie: if you were on a boat or not staying in the same place you need the GPS in your phone.

It will still work, The GPS is between the AC and RC.

No, the dynamic Hp is the position of the smartphone/Tablet. The RC has no build in gps.

Yes you can fly VLOS with just the controller fine . The menu driven flight modes such as active track , POI , waypoint etc will not be available of course but the controller will display all of the required info such as GPS lock , distance , altitude etc and you still have RTH . You just need to set up RTH and some other parameters in the app initially .

If you are already an Apple guy. You'd better buy Dji Goggles. Use your iPhone connect to rc via wifi and hdmi from iPhone to Goggles. Dji Go 4 requires high performance cpu and iPhone 6splus is minimum.

You need phones GPS if you move around and have your RTH set to current location. Which means "home point" will change based on  location reported by your phones/tablets GPS.

I think you are talkning about the Mavic, and not the spark.
And like I said before, to use the dynamic HP-feature you need a device with build in gps.
