Hey All,

Just thought I'd share my new take-off and landing platform for my birds.

Folding table with adjustable height and handle. - $30.00
Styrofoam SM (1" thick) - used as base for LED lights and wiring - $10.00
LED light kit with RF remote control and 12V batter pack (8 AA size batteries - 15hrs continuous use) - $75.00
Light kit has many (20+) preset RGB light programs (not programmable)
Polycarbonate sheet (19" square) - (48" x 24" sheet - $60.00)
Graphic - designed by me - printed by professional - (3 pcs - $150.00 - printing only) - (Design work - 20hrs)
Manufacturing / Building - 40hrs work (soldering all wires, mounting all lights, mounting pad to table)
LED light kit on Phantom - $30.00

Not bad for my first attempt.

The reason for all the lights (might be a few too many) - because I could.  lol
Enjoy.

For a short video of the pad you can see it here - https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10153103331174627&ref=notif¬if_t=video_processed

I hate you!:@ JK!  and I love your Phantom
I did some simple math on that landing pad...that would cost more than my Phantom....But I love it!
Which end of Canada are you at? eh!

And I can say that as I live in B.C...Lower Mainland..

Yeah, it cost a bit, but needed something for it, and the pad is attached to the table, so becomes flight control area.  I figure, time and everything, that the pad cost about $300.00. (The pricing for the lights above is incorrect, complete LED kit cost for pad only - $75.00, the LED lights on the phantom were about $30.00.

A little pet project for myself.

What would be really cool is if the lights on the landing pad, after take off, mirrored the lights on the Phantom for early warning of system status if not in sight.

I'd have to agree that would be neat, going to have to incorporate a mini computer to help with that one.  That would probably put the price somewhere near the $1000 mark for a landing pad.  lol

I'll have to shoot one of those as soon as weather is nice, that would be a cool video.
Better brush up on landing smoothly, lol

Well here you go, a night time one, not the ILS you were hoping for but it was -15C outside when I did this so it's short.

You have to visit the link and there is a second one with the pic in pic reversed, you should be able to "next" or "previous" to view it.

Cheers

thanks, I enjoyed making it.

The LED lights on the quad came from http://www.quadcopterlightkit.co ... -ufo-light-kit/cigc

I think they work great.

The LED kit for the landing pad came from http://ledmontreal.com/en/rgb-led-strip-kits/

Oh, I didn't use the 9Volt battery that came with the quad light, I soldered the connections straight to the power feeds inside the bird.

Dosent the voltage/amp/current etc of the landing interfere with the compass setting on the quad?

No, not at all, very low voltage (same as quad - 12V) and amperage isn't even 1amp. Nothing to worry about.
The landing pad is battery operated with a battery pack of 8 AA batteries
