Probably best you kept the Mavic in place.  Attempting to flee might have triggered a predatory instinct.

I was scared stiff, I could barely rotate (as you can tell by the jerking, lol).

good news about hawks is they are not very aggressive unless you are bothering their nest.. if they are out cruising or hunting or eating,  they typically will avoid you. or keep distance...   the birds that i find give me the biggest trouble are always smaller birds.. i imagine an eagle would give me issues but i haven't seen one close yet, heard a few warning calls on my farm when flying over the back woods..

Great point, never thought of that. Smaller birds in general are a bit more uppity, haha. Eagle in flight would be awesome, and worth it destroying the drone, but not worth harming the bird...

Not sure I would even attempt to spy on them gliding again (well, maybe), I was lucky this time and got some killer shots...

That's awesome.

I have had hawks and seagulls fly by and check out the drone but never that close. I had smaller sparrows fly at it many times close but not hit it this summer.  I have managed to film deer close without disturbing the babies feeding but the elk I filmed took off after I got withing a couple hundred feet. There are 370+ eagles flying around the lake here right now but I am too chicken to fly the drone.

Very nice video I would love to be able to do that and survive. Nice job not panicking.

4k, 30fps, I believe I used the 'true color' profile in app (does that count as a filter?)

That footage looked really great.  I am no professional. (YET!)  But I am so impressed by the quality of the Mavic's camera.  Great footage your certainly very lucky to have gotten that.

Yea, I got lucky, but sure wasn't going to try to chase it down or stress it out. But here and facebook are the only places this is posted (by me at least)

Bahahaha that was cool....and I feel your anxiety when it comes to birds.  Had my Mavic sitting @ 35-40mtrs the other day when a bloody seagull decided to buzz me a few times, so thought it best to slowly bring it down....next thing I know there was this tiny bird (don't even know what it was) came out of nowhere and went all medieval on the Mavic.  Just about had a heart attack trying to get back down to safety

NightAngel79 - someone else here did a HAWK video, where they wind surfed together for a while, really cool, you might search it out.  Your video is on the same order very nice to watch, and it only happens once in a very great time.  Keep in mind, your drone can do 90 degree turns, a bird can't  Thanks for sharing.
