I am taking my phantom to my freinds house up in the North. He lives by 2 telephone towers, and i dont know if i will be able to fly because of the interference. The 2 telephone towers are atleast 0.5-1 mile away from where i will fly. Would it be to risky to fly of the dreaded fly aways??

I have a cell tower 1/2 mile away and no problems from it so far.  I've been within 1/4 mile of it.

Probably 50 to 75 feet.  it sets on top of the hill away from the road.  I've been within 50 feet of 750 kv power lines with no problem, but you will need to use your own judgement.

Just don't get any close-ups of it. I have a cell tower close to my location as well - 1/2 mile away. I have seen videos of Phantoms doing fly-bys next to towers with no affect. I wouldn't want to be that close though.

isiah, that is certainly a big one (but is that not a radio tower rather than a cell tower?   dont know if it matters but i thought that was radio not cell).  as for cell towers like shown below, ive flown right up to one (before i knew better).  i was easily within 75ft of the thing several times and never had any issues thank god.  but ill say a half mile or more away from something (anything really) shoudl never cause enough interference to disrupt you.

Looks like a radio tower...not a high powered cell phone tower.

With the new  technology you should be fine. The RC radios prior to 2.4 and 5.8 GHz were on the 72 MHz band. You could have real problems if flying near an antenna for a TV station on Channel 2.

Ham radio operators know that even RF from different bands can be powerful enough to create interference that can be problematic.  I try to stay well away from radio towers but I've seen some drone pilots flying over them to obtain photos/video.  I might do that if I owned the tower and knew it wasn't in use but I would't risk losing my drone by flying close to a radio tower.  I'd stay as far away as possible.
