For the past two times when I upgraded the firmware of my phantom 3 standard, it would have onscreen "Upgrade failed" and would tell me to restart the aircraft and controller. Upon doing this, it would beep loudly and i would have to do the update again with annoying beeping in the background. I don't like having to go out of my way to do the update again so I am looking for a permanent fix to this. Thanks!

Firmware update is required if the previous update failed. I would recommend you to check the tutorial video and try again.

A small breeze from a cooling fan placed a few feet away is beneficial.
No nearby sources of wifi or electromagnetic interference.
And have patience.  

I always get my firmware downloaded then shut down my router put a fan on my drone and upload the firmware

I think I was one of the very first forum members, to suggest using a double sided cooling fan when doing firmware updates.

Yes, it can significantly reduce the overheating of your drone and intelligent flight pack. ;-)
I also place my flight packs and two 100w DJI OEM chargers on those fans as well when topping them up to 100%..
I have an air conditioner in my RC bucket list... Ha

The thing is that when I did the recent update, it was in the middle of the woods with no interference at all. And it wasn't a hot day.

I use the fan more for the gimbal then anything, but having it on the whole bird can only help things along IMO
I do my battery recharge on a table right over my central air vent
