I was flying today with my Spark, updated 2 days ago to the newest software (which was going to resolve this issue with flying aways) and I just had today compass error followed by IMU error afterwards. Spark lost GPS and falled down into the forest, I wasn’t able to find it, so I’m not sure what to do know. I just opened my “repair” ticket and I bought DJI Care Refrash but I didn’t get my aircraft back... I was flying over the forest, with 2 batteries before the last flight successfully, but the last flight was my last one with that Spark...

You calibrated the Spark after the update, before the flight?

I didn’t calibrate it, because Spark didn’t show any information that I need to do compass calibration and before the flight I checked (like always) and sensors was ok, compass/biass etc green level and small triangle on the map was showing correct direction

Is it necessary to calibrate Spark after the update? Where is this written?

Technically this is not a FlyAway, its just a Drone that goes to ATTI mode due to compass error and users that dont know how to fly on ATTI mode.

Call this a Flyaway requires a series of flightlogs to see if the drone are realy uncontrollable (no stick controlls)  and takes a way by her own. ( and not just the wind blowing drone away on ATTI mode).

I didn’t had any control with my sticks ! I tried a few times to control my another drone with ATTI mode, so I am familliar with that, but the problem was that Spark lost RC controller totally so it wasn’t reacting at all !

Kamil, sorry to hear about the accident, have you synced the flight records and apply data analysis? If so, we will have data analysis team to try their best to find out the reason with proper resolution, please wait patiently for the result. Thanks.

2 minutes to recalibrate the IMU and compass. Might have prevented at least a few of these problems.

which conflicts with the "dont calibrate unless it tells you too in the menu"

from everything i seen and handled, you should not calibrate unless it tells you too...  that error where says imu exception error thing it does not ask you to calibrate when that occurs either.

the truth about when to calibrate lies in the middle... the spark only has a single IMU and a single compass unlike the Mavic pro which has a bunch of redundancies..   this means the spark has a much higher chance of being confused midflight well after take off, by seemingly nothing. so if that occurs 1000 feet away then what?  that is asking a lot for someone to handle that, and in which case i would not say its user error, even if it accepted user commands.   Atti mode triggering randomly or while in GPS lock indicates hardware issues.. some miscommunication internally between multiple pieces of hardware disagreeing.

So how should you fly in ATTI mode?

Atti mode is like manual control, if you still have full RC and video feed experience user can manage fly back manually.  Don’t press RTH when you have both IMU and compass error, that will definitely cause a fly away!

The latest DJI go 4 did not suggest compass calibration unless it prompt you to do so.

Why this errors occurs at same time? Is it the same hardware? Is it the same piece of code in software?

Yes, I did. I synced my flight records straight after accident. I’m on my holidays at the moment, so I didn’t bring my computer to download logs via iTunes, I’ll do when I get home! Pity thing is that I lost all of my holidays memories on the SD card with drone

Sorry to hear about this, I understand how you feel. Since you've opened a ticket, did you provide your DJI account email and the date this occurred to the email Support?

After the update did you log out and logged back in to your account? and why would a no GPS make the drone fall, doesn't it just go to ATTI mode?

No, I didn’t. I couldn’t see my aircraft because it was at 120m exactly when it went into ATTI mode and than I lost a control over the RC

Just double check in "about" which updateversion you have? Maybe the update went wrong and remained the old one

If I remember correctly you can upload flight log to AirData without actually downloading the log from your phone. If you sync-up the logs in app, then you can log with your DJI account in AirData and let it upload from DJI servers. This could be helpful.

see Automatic Upload section

Hello dji?
Do we have to worry again regarding the above crashes and warnings. Might the last fw update been a flawn ? Feels like there has been some kind of timelimit regarding the warnings, same as the maximum distance/ height messages. Everthing is going fine after several flights and suddenly out of nowhere the error messages appear. Will this also be with this falling issue, that after a fwe dsys of flying , sparkowners are getting the warning messages as before? Is it a delay of execution?

I had a fly away a few days ago, after updating to the new FW.

AC would not respond to my commands (through the RC) and eventually disappear.

Just opened a ticket to Support.

Hello together,

maybe my behavior looks like this. Drone want to do a RTH but was flying in the oposite direction. I tried to force the correct direction using my remote but drone dont confirmed anything. Thats caused a crash in a high 13 meter tree, and i lost my drone because i could not see it and even if, i would not reach it.
