Sure it does - as I check my drones over for any sign of wear and damage, including the props, whilst I keep thousands of pounds worth of my equipment clean and in order...

Yes I would agree that doing a thorough equipment check can help prevent many things to include a possible crash...my thought was about simply cleaning it...

Dirt/dust etc can gradually build up in the gimbal and motors - no need to be OCD about it but yeah, a good check over and clean up is always recommended to prevent crashes. It is actually in the UK CAA drone code to ensure your drone is in perfect working order before and after every flight - so it is technically built into aviation law in my country to do this though it's mainly common sense.

...and you have not found the Windex causing any problems with the plastic and the finish?

Owning a couple of high-end computerized telescopes with UHTC (Ultra High Transmission Coating) lenses I just believe in cleaning lenses as infrequently as possible so as not to affect any lens coating or treatment.  For my telescopes I mix a homemade concoction of distilled water, dish soap, & vinegar, then use it very sparingly.

I have a dome with a SCT-14, we use alcohol diluted with distilled water at 60/40, this mixture is perfect for the drone too

I take mine in the shower with me. I find it improves the hand -eye coordination and keeps the blood splatter under control.

Good ideas...
So the alcohol in the sanitizer does not have any negative effects on the plastic parts?

I love this forum but the notifications are so easy to miss.

1. Its a 3D printed gimbal holder from Thingiverse. I make custom parts for drones as well.
2. Alcohol does not affect it, its very low and does not attack the plastic, has not so far. I just dab the microfiber cloth and its on for a few seconds.

Sidenote, is there email notification on this forum for posts ?
Apologies for the month(s) delay.

No worries thanks for the response
I wish I could answer your question, but I cannot, maybe someone else can...I get notifications by e-mail for those responding but it is spotty at best...and I have not found any option where you can turn such things on or off.  For the longest while I was not getting e-mail notifications then it just started up here in the past month...not sure, but it might have something to do with ranking, maybe.
Either way thanks for your update and info.  You'll have to come share on the forum the custom parts you are making, I'd be interested in your work and I'm sure others will too.

First step for me was a coat of RainX out of the box on both my Phantoms. I’ll do that every two months or so.  Then a light wipe down after every flight with windex and a microfiber and then blow out motors and vents with caned air. Anal about this routine as the Arizona desert will find its way into everything.  I use the lens cleaner packets for my SLR to clean my ND filters and sensors. My camera lens have always have an ND filter on them so no need to touch the camera lens up till this point.

Sounds like the process is thorough and comprehensive...
I take it you have not seen any degradation of the plastic or other parts?
I think the process of using compressed air on the motors etc. is a great idea and one all should do or consider doing.
Thanks!

No issues with the plastics up till this point Capt. Genghis9, and everything looks brand new. And of course wipe down the controllers after each use also. A clean aircraft is a happy aircraft !
