As far as I know, upscaling is useless and makes for far worse quality.
It just creates more pixels, but in doing so the software 'guesses' what was in between the existing pixels.
It might be right, but usually this results in very soft images. Especially when played on 1080p screen.
There are many video's out there that show the difference. Like when comparing Spark to Mavic in 4K.
The Spark footage (even played at 1080) looks awful due to upscaling and playing at 1080 again .
Check for example on 1080...
Spark footage looks bad and soft, even at 1080.

Apparently, this person (link below), who shoots plenty of footage in other countries does not mind upscaling from 1080, aside from other considerations, because in his finals, the drone footage isnʻt the focus, it is transitionary, and thatʻs another consideration. He seems to think 4K footage is way to sharp. Sounds contrary to what youʻd want (e.g., useless), but depends on what youʻre producing.

Casey Neistat did a review with the footage upscaled to 4K, personally I think it looks good.

Yes, I've watched that also. On a 1080 screen the upscaled footage looks less sharp than the original footage. Far worse than the Mavic native 4K footage on that Same 1080 screen.
