Hi all,
I am a professional videographer and am used to many different cameras and formats. But I cannot find any description on how this camera works in auto. (the only mode of course!) If you select an ASA fixed value, say 100ASA, does the lens diaphragm carry out compensation , and what is the f stop range?
And when in auto ASA are exposure adjustments made via ASA rating keeping a fixed aperture? in other words what are the exposure prioity modes and what is the aperture range?
Cheers!
Thanks John, that is interesting. I didn't realise it was a fixed aperture. Do you know the variable shutter range when in video mode? At f2.8 even at 100ASA it must be very fast on a sunny day as there are obviously no ND filters- I am impressed that it doesn't get quite choppy to the point of strobing.
I use Panasonic AF100s professionally which are always in full manual mode at 1080P/50 at 1/50th (Pal land here in NZ) so I have to convert the 720p/60 to 50 for better compatibility so I would like to have an understanding of what this little camera is shooting at, although it seems to do a reasonable job anyway . (but I wish it had manual control over exposure.)
Cheers!

In the Vision App you do have control over ISO, you can also set exposure compensation to override auto controls, and you can change the metering type.
Hi, thanks for that. Yes I realize that but the camera is always still in auto regardless of these settings of course- it is just globally compensated depending on your choice of setting
.
I was particularly interested in the automatic variable shutter speed range, as for video anything approaching 1/100sec or faster, given that the frame rate is constant, can lead to stroby or choppy looking footage.
Rod,
I really hope that DJI comes up with a way to manually change the aperture (in the Vision app) in their next Phantom Plus quadcopter so we could have that broader depth of field. Or provide optics for 4k resolution.
I was just noticing Dr. Rennie on YouTube showing off 4k from his GoPro 4 Black on a Phantom 2. The distant images look very sharp. He says that he uses filters that help. I plan to look into it further. But check out this video for sharpness in the distance
I am surprised more people who own a Phantom 2 with GoPro Black are not shooting in 4k. At least I don't seem them displayed on YouTube.

Step-by-step instructions for learning to fly a Phantom safely:
ok, it is technical
1. P2V+ uses a fixed aperture (f/2.8)
2. there is a lightning-like button to select betweenNTSC and PAL
3. ev bias (4 stops) is used to control the auto exposure since shutter is uncontrollable
4. shutter ranges from 1/30 to 1/8000 during the auto exposure.
