Is there any way to make the gimbal point up just a little bit? On the screen, there is the gimbal position indicator, and it extends above horizontal, but I can't move the camera past horizontal.

Is it possible to look up a little? Is this my issue alone or is it not allowed at all?

Yes you can, but only in tripod mode.

It can't look up, as you can see the specs of the Spark.

Controllable Range

Pitch: -85° to 0°

It can look up very well  for panorama pictures. But this happens through the software, you can't do it manually. Nevertheless this is the evidence that technically the gimbal is not limited to 0°

Spark can  "0°" in full speed sports mode.
Which is a lot more + as 0° in reality, isn't it?
It is doing +° in Pano modes.
So DJI only needs to allow the usage for video and photomode.
Maybe in tripodmode or slow flights with obstacle avoidance on or such.
DJI, let the pilot decide, if he wanna risk propellers in the piture!

How about that we can do Panos with setting the  -° angle for the first center-picture by ourselfs?
I would love to have some Panos with less sky, sometimes, and more foreground/bottom.
But without having to fly the Spark in usual "Smartphone" heights and in closer distances!

Seriously, I am using an iPad mini connected via USB ( or wifi ) to the remote and in tripod mode I can lookup up about 10 to 15 degrees ( see pics below )
I also work with my android phone connected to the remote. Note that I did not try without the remote.

You can add 10 degrees by adjusting gimbal pitch in settings.

There is a slight adjustment you can make in the DJI Go app camera setting, turn on Spark with camera facing you, connect to your app, and go into camera setting and adjust gimbal....you can see it moving up and down to your preference setting
