I literally get to walk out my front door, launch, then fly across the street to the park.  The fun though is finding new places to film/fly.  The Bay Area in California gives us lots of opportunity for that.

I live just outside of Washington, DC and I have to generally go 20 miles away from my house to find a good location.  There are some beautiful locations in the surrounding countryside and I've had fun discovering them, but I can't take a picture of my own house in the suburbs.

To test stuff and new FW, 1 -3 km. As Alex previously said: on weekends I travel to see new places in order to avoid being bored with same place. At such occasion I'm willing to go few hundred kilometers.

Well, normally somewhere between 10 and 50 meters. It depends on in which end of the house I decide to fly a trip and where the drone is parked.

I spend a lot of time scouting places to shoot.
One of my bigger issues is with people who notice me flying the drone, and want to ask questions and stuff.
Usually, I am trying to get in, and out before I am collecting the curious...especially when the target is in a public place.
I want to focus on the shot, but many times it ends up being a impromptu demonstration for onlookers.

Most of the time, I walk out into the back yard. I do have to admit just looking at cows and tree tops gets a little boring. The good part is, I can fly every day, if the weather is bad, I buzz around inside the house with my Spark.

It is a pity,
Cause Washington is such a nice place!
For sure it is an RFZ, but, as I said: a pity!

I live in Brazil.
In a small city on Minas Gerais State, called Araxá.
I can fly at home, but it is not fun!
Relatively near my place, there are National Parks and beautiful sceneries.
I must travel, at least, 10 to 20 miles to fly. Some places more!
And that’s the reason I can’t fly as always as I desired.
But, the places I go, at weekends, are superb.
And even if it is common, I love to fly!
And that’s what matters!

Dear Ex Machina,

It is a pity,

Yeah, thanks -- even more sadly the really nice scenic sites are within National Airport's exclusion zone anyway.

Looks like my misery has company. Not that I'd like to show anyone how horrible my yard looks, but it would be nice every now and then to just fly around the neighborhood. ;)

i corrected myself from before i thought i beated 300 miles i havent yet, i did the math wrong because i had wrong distance for a mile..

i dont know about that, i fly alot better via the camera.   if i am forced to fly only within my eyesight i think everyone would be far worse off, i dont think my neighbors would take to kindly to all my crashes into there stuff. .  basically if im flying visually only, then i fly like im drunk out of my mind, if i fly via camera everything is smooth and controlled, no sudden swerves and maneuvers.  i only use visual when im coming in to land or take off..

Thank you. Yes, there is no shortage of great shots all around me. I used to have a Phantom and it seemed like a chore to lug a backpack around and set it up to fly. As a professional photographer I would love the camera of the newer Phantom 4's. However, I always have the Mavic with me and it just seems so much quicker to get into the air. Now I can catch shots that I would have missed by leaving the Phantom at home.
For example, driving home a few nights ago....
