I just called square trade and they are telling me they do not cover this item. They asked me where I bought it. I replied B&H, which is one of their partners who carry square trade. Because of that they are saying I have to purchase through B&H. Since B&H didn't offer me the warranty or insurance, Square Trade doesn't think I can do it. Apparently it is up to the store you buy it from? Has anyone else dealt with this? Would love to insure / get a warranty for this phantom 2 plus go pro hero 4. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I bought mine directly from DJI.com. I had to provide proof of purchase to Squaretrade before they would sell me the warranty. It also had to be purchased within 30 days.

I suspect the game has changed now. Maybe they have had to pay out some claims and are rethinking their decision.

Please keep us posted in what you find out. Try to call again. Ask if you can get a hold of :

Newbie here, taking my Vision + out for the first time today. Long time SquareTrade user however. After reading this thread I'm still confused on if it is being covered or not. In my experience with SquareTrade they are GREAT, and I was really hoping to have this insurance on my V+.

Is it just hit and miss with who you get on the phone?

I had a 2 year warranty for a MOUSE ($67).  Well, it failed 1 year 8 mo.  Called SquareTrade and they sent me a label to return the old dead mouse.  I just sent back, so we will see if they give me a credit to paypal.  If they do, I will purchase for the Inspire 1.

I just spoke to square trade. She explicitly said they DO NOT cover drones. If you purchased it under camera or misc and something happens. You WILL NOT get ANYTHING from ST. I advised her that i have read the posts and am seeing people with coverage. She said that is fine, but when something happens it will not be covered.

Guess i will have to be SUPER careful now with my phantom.

Quick update here...

Were you able to get it repaired and did square trade give you any trouble? I can't get them to even talk to me about coverage.

I have a warranty already with Squaretrade for my TV. I called them about getting my P2Vp covered , they did research on it, asked me for the model said please hold. 5 mins later came back to the phone and said Squaretrade does not offer a warranty on Drones or quadcopters, that includes the DJI Phantom Vision Plus. He then said that they are under review by the company and will have a final division sometime in the future.

Guess it's a good thing I have detailed notes and a written contract. There is no possible/legal way for them to get out of the written contract I that I paid for and that they sent me. Especially not after a one hour long conversation where I grilled them about what it covers and how the claims process works. I have very detailed notes about that conversation. Date, time, who i was speaking to, etc.

Just sad to know that I can not get the ST plan on any newer units I buy. But I am confident I have their full coverage on the P2V+ I own, because the contract is a legal and binding agreement.

This morning I called Square Trade and after 10 minutes on the phone, they directed me to their Amazon team since I purchased my Phantom from Amazon. The representative confirmed that the Phantom would be covered for any/all damage including flyaway and water damage. I was instructed to purchase the plan through Amazon (via cditty's link) which I did. Cost: $209.94 for 3 years.

Thank you Tony for your post and to cditty for the link.

Resting easier now that I know I’m covered.

In an earlier posting, USAA was mentioned as possibly covering the Phantom Vision 2+. I am a long-time customer of USAA and they cover my home, car and aircraft policies. They do not provide coverage for drones and/or cameras attached. The only coverage they offer is for stolen property which is covered under their homeowner policy (subject to deductible). Hope this helps.

I just got off a call with SquareTrade and inquired as to whether they cover drones. I was told that they no longer write contracts on them but anyone who has an existing policy would be grandfathered in. When I checked on my policy, they already had the information on the drone model, serial number and purchase date (I purchased both through Amazon). There is a note on my account specifically stating full coverage. As for what they cover; Everything (P2V+, Camera, Remote, etc.). The policy DOES NOT cover liability.

Hey Folks.

Date: 2/20/15.  I Just talked to a rep with Smart Guard by Warrantech.  Its in regard to the amazon replacement gimbal and camera and the warranty that pops up on the side when you buy.  DON'T BUY.

The guys says he doesn't know why Amazon still has that up but he says it doesn't cover the Phantom AND the gimbal.  They stopped doing that, but it would cover the camera.

I told him that the gimbal and camera is one part.  He said, well then its not covered.

Heads up.

Just so everyone knows how SquareTrade works, not sure if this has been covered or not, but they deduct the repair price from the coverage amount. For example, if you pay $1000 for a new Phantom and it costs them $500 to fix it, you have $500 left in repairs. If you file another claim and the repair costs $600, they will pay out the remaining $500 instead of fixing it. If they just replace the quadcopter and pay out, the warranty plan is over and you must buy a new protection plan at the $269 rate for 3 years if you would like protection on the new one. You don't get unlimited use.

After about 3 hours on the phone, reading the full terms, and talking to 3 or 4 different Square Trade reps, I was told that "there is no doubt" it would ALL be covered--- not just the camera.  I did the 3 year Camera plan on the Phantom 3 Professional for $269 minus a coupon I asked them for!  I took down the extensions and names of the helpful people... they looked it up online, know exactly what the product is, and said "obviously it is one thing and will be covered."  The camera coverage comes with drop, spill, accidental damage coverage too.  Brandon at ext 1732 should be able to help.  Hopefully I don't ever need it!

You didn't read the posts. It covers everything. Period. And it does cover accidental damage from handling. AKA Pilot Error. Yes, it is for one use. I'd rather have spent $270 on a 3 year TOTAL REIMBURSEMENT PLAN and get a $1300 check in the mail, than not have spent the $270 and not get a check. But yeah, any protection plan you buy, of this nature, is one time use. That's just how it works.

Your trust issues, although understandable, are unfounded on this specific post. I have been a member of this forum since the very first day it was up. And I am obviously not a plant. To even consider that square trade would plant forum members to talk up a warranty that they have no intention on ever honoring is purely ludicrous. That would be shooting themselves in the foot.

They are an "A" rated business by the BBB and to plant forum posts on this forum for a plan they NEVER INTEND on making good on would be so idiotic and would lose them their BBB A rating in a new york minute.

But hey, you're going think what you want, and certainly have a right to your opinion.

Boom! Claim Approved!

Yes, took a dive directly in to a group of Pine Trees. User Error I think, although I felt like I was high enough to avoid them and the next thing I know I was flailing along through the tree tops like a pinwheel! I think it had a sudden major drop in elevation, but in any case, it is totalled. It is a backup bird, not my primary P2V+, so I was definitely being careless with it. I was flying too close to the tree tops and mangled it. But luckily the SquareTrade plan I have DOES cover pilot error and Accidental Damage while Handling.

I called the claim number today at 1:16pm. I explained my situation to the first rep that answered. She explained that I woudl need to box up the unit, even though it is in a thousand pieces, and they would attempt to repair it. If they could not repair it they will send a reimbuersement check. I explained that this was not the promise that was made to me back in August when I bought the plan. Long story short, we went round and round for 15 minutes, I asked for a manager several times. She said he was busy but would call me back in an hour.

At 3:15pm a manager called me back and said that in my case, since I was told they would not mess with trying to repair it, and since it is in a thousand pieces anyway, to just throw the pieces in a box and slap the prepaid FedEx label on and send it to them. 2 Day Expedited Service. He guarantees me that as soon as they receive it they issue a PayPal credit (no fees) to my PayPal account and I can withdrawal and have it in my bank in 48 hours. Just as promised.

I should note that he did offer to "replace" the item. Under this option they would "replace" the damaged item with a "similar" item and I could keep the squaretrade plan. I explained that the new Phantom 3 is out and sells for the same price as the Phantom 2. He said he thinks it would be replaced with a Phantom 2, not the new Phantom 3. But the benefit would be that I would get to keep the same SquareTrade plan and not have to buy a new one. He said the replacement process does take longer than the reimbursement process as well.

I chose the reimbursement and will certainly consider buying the SquareTrade on the new Phantom 3 I will be ordering.

I think I covered it all. And I will certainly keep you posted once I get the final reimbursement paypal payment in a few days, or later this week. But I wanted to compete the loop here and tell you that as of now, they are making good on the plan, in my opinion. Any questions, feel free to ask.

And once again, No, I do not work for SquareTrade. I own my own video/photo business. Who has time for a squaretrade job? haha

I was lied to by Squaretrade. After my reimbursement check came and I purchased a new Phantom 3, I called them back to buy a new plan and everyone's suspicions were true, they DO NOT offer quadcopter coverage anymore. The manager that processed my claim and ASSURED me that I could buy a new plan once I got my new Phantom 3 totally lied to me, and even though he admits telling me that now, he and his manager are not standing by his word. They are both saying that because they have not sourced a good repair center and do not stock pile quadcopter for replacement, they can not make any money on the full reimbursement plans and have stopped offering them.

My frustration with that is that at the time of the claim he gave me 2 options: (1) have Squaretrade replace the Phantom with another Phantom 2 Vision+ and let the existing square trade plan carry over to the new unit, for the remainder of the plans term at no extra charge. or (2) accept a reimbursement check to buy the Phantom 3 and have the plan be consumed. I would then have to buy a new Squaretrade plan, per the representative's explanation. I was assured I could buy a new plan.

Well, they are now saying they stopped selling the plans. If I had known that I may have chosen to get a new P2V+ and keep the coverage. (Probably not, but still!) haha

So, I will definitely be buying the Neary Aerial Coverage so I can once again feel safe and protected.

Hello Tony,

You had a much better experience then I did!

I filed the claim and was told to send it in for repair to a dealer of my choice.  Once I paid to have it repaired I could send them invoice to get paid.  They also had the option to pay directly if I wanted them to.

I sent it out and got it fixed.  Took about 5 weeks.   Once I received it back I submitted the invoice.  Nothing...

I followed up via email and through claim portal.  Nothing for 60 days.

I was about to call and raise heck when I noticed my claim was cancelled.  So I opened I new claim and refiled everything.  Boom I was paid in about 4 days!

Bought a new Phantom 3 Pro and now looking into Neary Aerial....

Did you purchase yet?  Any other options?

Thank you for the great post.  I have done research since reading this post, and although square trade doesn't offer plans directly though them, the do if purchased from B&H they sell a plan and it is with square trade.  After reading all this I called square trade and they said they do not offer drone coverage, when I mentioned that B&H said they do, he said only through them they offer it, since B&H is a huge customer they have an exception for their customers.  EVERYTHING is covered unless it is lost or stolen.  If it flies into a lake and you can fish it out you will either get a refund or repair.  That was a huge deciding factor when purchasing for me, so because of that plan I did purchase through B&H.  2 years was $137.99 and 3 years was $187.99.

I even asked about multiple accidents.  If can be repaired it goes off the dollar amount, so if your drone is insured for $1300 and you crash it and it is $300 to fix you have $1000 left on your plan.  If crashed again and it needs to be placed then will refund you what you paid minus that $300.

Also buying from B&H since they are in New York and I am in California it was tax free

Just wanted to giver you guys that little update since square trade took off the plans to the public, you can still insure it.  Im not sure if other distributors have this kind of account with them, as of now B&H is all I know of, but I didn't look to much further since I was happy with the price and package I got.

Not that it makes a huge difference in the big picture, but just to update this note...

I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint for the lies that were told to me by the SquareTrade rep, assuring me that I could buy a new plan, then changing the story around and leaving me with a new Phantom 3 and no protection. Within hours of the BBB sending the complaint to SquareTrade I got a call from a manager at he made everything right. I had him email me, so Id have it in writing, that I am able to buy a new plan and that the ADH coverage is in fact OK for my new Phantom 3. So, I now have the same coverage on my P3P as I had on my P2V+ and I know that they are good for it.

It's not the first time I've filed complaints with the BBB. They are always the ones that finalize the dispute process for me. I always get resolution when I involve them. I've filed against Sprint, a local Nissan Dealer, Best Buy, and now Squaretrade. All of these disputes were resolved in my favor, after being told the businesses would definitely not help me. SO, don't hesitate to involve the BBB if the need should arise.

Hi guys just wanted to let people know my experience so far with squaretrade.  I bought a accidental damage plan from them back in November of 2014 when they still offered it.  I recently had a crash in a shallow pond with mine at a fairly fast speed.  The gimbal broke apart, I cracked and twisted an arm on the quad and the whole unit was submerged for at least a minute or so.  Also broke 2 props.  So far I filed the claim and they emailed me a FedEx 2 day shipping label which I used and sent the P2V in.  The received it and "evaluated" it and supposedly have bought parts for repairing it.  Now Ive been waiting for the past few days to see what the outcome is

My understanding is that they wouldn't attempt to repair it and would just send a reimbursement check.  This appears not to be the case anymore.  I didnt send the battery in with it which was also ruined from being submerged and thus shorted for a period of time.  I also didn't send the controller.  I'm wondering on how they plan on repairing it if they can't even fly it to test.  Was hoping on upgrading to the phantom 3 but it looks like that might not happen.
