My plan for today, fly SPARK around 570 meters from the start point over a lake. After around 140 meters and without line of sight, I totally chicken out, and pulled the bird back.
Planning to be braver next time.

I know that it really may not matter over water, but I would recommend you try and keep it in LOS.  If for some reason it goes to ATTI mode, you'll be in trouble if you don't have eyes on it.

Yes, my thought also, some boats around, so , my fear was "oh jezz if this little guy misbehave and drop on someone's boat". Aside that, SPARK was pretty stable, color wise,  the lake is not that blue of course, but I just did auto mode, not changing white balance, or any post editing.

Touch wood I have never had a problem over water except with disconnection between remote and drone, but it always has returned to home. Maximum distance out over water has been 1KM. Be brave and enjoy!

It‘s good to be careful. Flying over water is a brave action. Glad you did it and have fun with your spark.

assuming your aircraft is behaving normally, shouldn't be much of a concern, especially on a clear sunny day like that!  only concerns i would have is how wifi acts with foliage.  considering DJi has basically dumbed down the wifi in the spark you have to consider that trees + wifi = signal issues specially further on.    my second worry is  that spark seems to randomly switch to atti mode.  but if you dont have issues with atti mode and free falling sparks, then if you loose signal your spark should just sit there for a few seconds then return back..

i think i figured out why atti mode gets so easily tripped.   based on other gadgets that use solid state accelerometers and gyros...  it is very easy to cause false triggers and "max " them out on lateral measurements when no references or redundancies.. small vibrations and taps and sudden movements even if they aren't legitimately within  max. bounds of measurements just being sudden and without references or redundancies can trigger false readings..   this means dji could sort of patch it, by averaging readings out more, but that makes it slower to respond, the only real way would be to go down the route all the other aircraft DJI now makes and have 2 sets of each..

Beautiful shots. I have the same fear as you. The amount of fly-aways and crashes that I see in the Spark forum is too damn high.

Next time go through the fountain. It could be like Guardians of the Galaxy. Just kidding, of course, fly safe.

Pratice the rth feature, it will give you some confidence.

Just keep flying further each flight that's what i did when i got my spark. Have fun!

Basically the issue here is 1) I have a lot of trees around 2) water. Even flying at > 60m high, and using 2.4 GHz, I am kind of "afraid" to lose connection to the bird, and the fail over to return home just "crap out". The "curve" of the river is kind out of LOS , so if the bird get disconnect, will be difficult for me to control.
