Some unobstructed, pristine Canadian lakes are pretty stable with water level, indeed. Many aren't, however. That's why our docks are mostly floating, just like these on River Thames near London City.

It was once explained to me that many of the lakes in central Canada are simply 'dimples' in the North American Shield, and their level does not vary much. |
