Just dropped. Hesitant to download as it says Improved Shooting and FLIGHT SAFETY FEATURES....The last part concerns me. Their idea of flight safety is crippling an existing feature..if anyone downloads please post.

Installed it on a new iPad Pro 10.5 running iOS 11 beta. Flew my P4P and P4 on 2 flights each with no issues. I didn’t use any flight modes, as I never do anyway. But distance, video transmission is all good.

No new "safety features" ? Someone in another forum was saying they were going to limit height to the 400 foot ceiling.

No need to go any higher than that, even if they did.  For the vast amount of most users, anyway.

Are you saying you have a  distance  problem wear you can’t go very far.

Keeping a constant 400' AGL going up a hill will require going higher than what the DJI aircraft thinks is 400'.  Just don't fly near hills anymore, I guess they will say?  Based on some of the scenic videos I see posted here, I would think that would affect a lot of users.

Then there is the 400'x400' cylinder around a structure.  For a 1000' tower you need to be allowed to go up to 1400' AGL.  They're going to cut off all the part 107 guys who do inspection work, and even property owners who want to inspect their own structures.  Maybe true professionals are in the minority here but I just don't believe DJI would cripple so many.  Ugh.

If true, this change would be the nail in the coffin for me.  But I have increasing faith in the hacker-types that seem to have a knack for "tweaking" things in DJI's aircraft.  If DJI wants users running unapproved stuff, then by all means keep crippling things for us.

No distance problem at all, only went out about 3500 feet at 350 max alt. It was getting dark and wanted to test real quick. So far I’ve had no issues. I hardly use any custom functions as I prefer to free fly, so I cannot comment on if they work or not.

Aloha Brian,

     Those guys are on other forums because they do not have good information but still want to talk it up big.  I fly up to 1640 feet (500 meters) next to the mountain near my house.  The mountain is considered a structure and the Pt 107 rules allow you to fly within 400 feet of a structure as noted.

     The mountain is actually closer to 2000 feet high but my altitude limit is still 500 meters.  To go up higher, I would have to land somewhere higher than I am, shut down, restart and then I would have another 500 meters.  It is the cards we are dealt and we have to live with it.

     The DJI safety features have saved my Phantoms more often than I like to admit.  I like the safety features.

Tested today. Distance 140 meters, height  about 50 meters. I can see the drone between four trees. Image transmission lost.... This drone has turned to totally useless and expensive piece of junk since May when I bought it. Then everything was fine. Not anymore.

So the recent update gave you the range issue?

I am going to download it on my iPhone and test it out... But not my iPad.  I am doing a "Trust, but verify"

Maybe Alabama is flat, other places are not.  It would suck to try to fly over a 500 foot hill if you can only climb 400 feet.
