I just noticed, my laptop WiFi kicked out I turned on the remote. How do I disable the remote but keep the controller on so i can download the updates without using phone data?

Which phone is that? Try connecting to a different frequency if your router supports dual frequency 2.4/5GHz. Changing your router's WiFi channel in its admin page might help. You can also use the DJI Assistant 2 PC app (RJ45 hardwired to the router) to upgrade.
