Helle everyone, I'm looking at printing some of the photos I've taken with my phantom 3 advanced.. What's the largest print size you could do while still retaining a decent picture quality? Has anyone tried this?

Thanks in advance

I'd be interested in seeing what all has been done with printing too. Good question.

If you are talking about 12Mpixel photos then you can print them billboard size if you want, if viewed at a comfortable viewing distance to see the whole photo then it will be of acceptable resolution.  If you walk up to it and examine the detail in small areas then you will see poor resolution, but that is true of any size print, although at some point you need a magnifying glass to get close enough.  If you walk up to a professional billboard you will find poor resolution when you get close.

Think of where you are going to display it first, then work out the minimum viewing distance, then work out the maximum size print for that viewing distance to give acceptable resolution.  If it is going on the wall in a corridor then people have no choice but to look at it from close up so it needs to be a small print, if it is going on a wall in a living room where people wont get close because access is obstructed by a fire/fish tank/whatever then it can be quite large.

Another option for where people are going to have a close look after seeing it from a distance is to print the picture big, but then overlay it with some smaller images of the surrounding area / people etc, then from a distance the big image looks good and when you get up close you still have something detailed to look at.
