So, I've had my spark for a few weeks now and the flying experience with my Vodafone smart ultra 6 has been horrid, drop outs black screen  the works. Whilst on holiday tried my friends iPhone 6s and it was so smooth. My contract is up for renewal and I don't really want to go apple but if I can't find a stable android phone I might have to. Phone's don't really interested me so looking for a midrange phone and not some Uber expensive monster. Any recommendations?

I have a ZTExl phone and a Samsung Tab A tablet and cannot get either to run the Go4 app on wifi. They both will run Go4 with an OTG cable with no problems, very good video, no data dropouts. I always have to repeat that DJI does not support the OTG method. I've wanted to start a thread asking android users what setups they have (firmware, app version, wifi or OTG) that do work for them so others could look at their inventory and see if they have a working combo in front of them. I might be the only person alive not looking forward to a firmware/app update because I've somewhat figured the current setup.

I can't comment on the problems in the UK/EU. I'm in Florida. I've had hurricanes and a nonstop nor-easter keeping winds too high to fly much lately.

I'm in Argentina. I use my Spark with RC linked to my old Samsung S5 with Android 6.0.1 (clean stock FW, no simcard inserted and in planemode)  via WiFi.-

I've not so much flying time as others here... but never had a problem nor in midtown, between buildings, or in open areas (parks, riverline, etc)

Moto G5 Plus. I was having problems with my old Blu phone I was using at first. Lag, dropped connection, choppy video. No problems since I got the Moto G5 Plus. I got it even cheaper on Amazon Prime day. Normally $240 I got it for $180 with Amazon ads, 64 GB. And it's water resistant.

Samsung Galaxy S8 with RC and OTG cable, works perfectly.  You have to follow the procedure to connect everything and when switching batteries I kill the DJI GO 4 App by pushing and holding the App button and go into App info then Force Stop.
I live in Northern Ireland, so am EU.

I would refer to the support device list on the official website if I choose a device because engineers had tested to run DJI GO/DJI GO 4 on that mobile devices and they performed fine. Hope it would be a reference for you, too.

You're wrong, a lot of people are using android phones with their spark in the EU. Of course it works... Switching the WiFi bands can be a little bit difficult, but it works as well, as long as you know what you're doing.

No You're wrong. In EU It cannot be used 5.8Ghz frequency..

I posted about this issue in an other thread, this might help you:

the problem Android users encounter when trying to use the 2.4 GHz band (RC -> Spark) is such: in order to use the 2.4GHz band without an OTG-cable, the RC -> phone connection has to switch to 5.8 GHz. However, a lot of android devices (not all of them) can't connect to this band (for whatever reasons). Using a device which is running iOS solves this, as they have no trouble using this band.

In order to use the 2.4GHz band, which in Europe drastically increases range and image transmission sability, your mobile device has to connect to the RC via 5.8GHz and the RC -> Spark connection switches to 2.4GHz.
Using a OTG-cable is the only way for some android users to change the RC -> Spark connection to 2.4GHz, as the RC -> mobile device connection is no loger using WiFi and thus the 2.4GHz band becomes available.

Hope that helps.

OTG IS NOT SUPPORTED!!!! This is not solution... OK, you bought a car and it can not fit the second gear, the dealer says it's okay to use the first and third gear... It is correct?!?!? NO!!! The same case is with a spark..

I'm confused now, do you only have the spark or are you trying to use it with the RC?

I am personally not using an android device so I don't know how to makte the phone find the RC's wifi, when the RC-> Spark connection is switched to 2.4 GHz, it's possible, I just don't know how. OTG however works just fine, you shouldn't be worried about it ;)
But you're right, it's not an ideal solution for android users. I don't know why it kjust works fine with iOS.

Yes I have RC and I know on OTG and use it sometime.. But bothers me that i bought something and not work as manufacturers says.. They cheated me.. Nobody minds it that Dji sells drones which do not work so as Dji advertise??

Funny story!
I flew my Spark in Thailand, Germany and China.
With RC, OTG and OP5.
And dont even have to "kill" Dji Go 4 during a battery change.
Which makes me think, there are some Droids working with DJI Go4 and Spark.

And yes, I have had trouble with my LG4, which wasn't be able to work with Dji Go 4.

Samsung Galaxy s8+.
Big screen and works flawlessly on both 2.4 and 5.8 in UK.OTG working also. Don't believe half the rubbish put on here Regarding Android phones I had an S6 Edge prior to this phone and it worked well too I just wanted a bigger screen.

However DJI are very slow in updating the Android app, frustratingly slow.

Tried it on Sony Experia on Android - Mixed connection and results. iPad mini 4 worked flawless. ios is far superior to Android across all craft. Saying that though a lot of people use the Nvidia Shield tablet and report good things. Phone wise though - Apple all the way from personal experiences.
