DNG is a professional image format, and generally requires a professional image editing application. There are several of these written for a Mac. Photoshop is, of course, the industry standard. Photoshop elements is almost a completely different application from a workflow perspective, but is usually almost good enough, depending on your goals.
An open sourced (free, but a bit more clunky) alternative is GIMP, should you be interested and motivated.
