My Phantom 4 controller has suddenly gone haywire. Whenever i turn it on, all I have to do is press the power button once and it turns on, not the two-press sequence I am used to. When it first started to go haywire, the DJI Go 4 app always assumed the P4 Advanced was connected, but now it thinks I am connected to an Inspire 1 and tells me to use the DJI Go app. All the lights on the RC are white, not red, blue, or green. All attempts at a manual reset have failed (C1 + C2 + shutter button for 3 seconds). The controller has not been dropped or handled rough in any way. It will no longer link with my P4. Is this controller kaput?

Are you still having issues with this remote? You may have to have a technician look at the remote. If you reset it, try turning off the remote and aircraft. Let them cool off. From there, start the remote first, the aircraft second and then go into the app. Let us know if this works.

Here is a little more information on what is wrong and what I have done.
- Whenever I turn it on, all I have to do is press the power button once and it turns on, not the two-press sequence I am used to.
- At first, DJI Go 4 app always assumed the P4 Advanced was connected, (I own a P4) but now it thinks I am connected to an Inspire 1 and tells me to use the (older) DJI Go app.
- All the lights on the RC are white. The system status light was usually amber, green, or red, now it is solid white and never changes.
- All attempts at a manual reset have failed (C1 + C2 + Camera Settings Dial + shutter button for 3 seconds). Plus all other combinations i have been able to find on the 'net.
- The controller has not been dropped or handled rough in any way. It will no longer link with my P4.
- Tried resetting firmware to 1.8 with no effect. Any attempts at upgrading firmware in DJI Go and Go4 app have failed.
- Go4 App will no longer allow me to load it, forces me to use Go (new symptom)

How long have you owned the remote? Please review the warranty on this item. If you are within the time period, you may want to call in and get it serviced. Here is a link to the warranty: http://www.dji.com/service/policy

If your controller not under warranty, you can try disconnect RC internal battery, wait 5 min and then connect it back.

I am the 2nd owner of the remote. It was purchased in May of 2016 but the owner passed away before he had much chance of using it. (Flight Data logs proves this is true) I have owned it since September of this year, so the warranty probably does not apply to me.

What would it cost to ship this to a repair center for evaluation?

Do you know of a tutorial that shows me how to do that?

You would get a shipping label once a repair is set up. You can start the process here: http://www.dji.com/service/repair?site=brandsite&from=nav

Usually you don't want to open the remote as it is possible to void the warranty. Unfortunately, there is not a tutorial video regarding that.

All you need to do is take off the four rubber pieces (Held on with double-sided tape.) underneath the RC and the screws under them, and the cover near the antenna and flip up the three ribbon cable black retainers up so the cables can be threaded through the base.  Then it pretty much snaps and prys apart.  Battery is a plug-in affair held on the base cover.

Not that hard and you can reuse the double-stick tape if you don't make a mess of it during removal.

Given that you don't have a warranty on it then I'd suggest this as a repair will probably cost hundreds and take weeks. Not sure of your budget margin but buying a brand new one may be a better option if all else fails.

Try removing the DJI Go 4 app and reloading it. It helped me with a similar problem. Also re link the RC to the P4 and don’t forget to calibrate everything again. These controllers are finicky at best. My P4 controller would not take a charge and I found one on eBay for $160. Good luck...

And for DJI Mark, there are videos on YouTube for taking these controllers apart. One has to be really careful with the ribbon cable that is way too short to begin with. Shame on DJI for that oversight...

It would be hard for Mark to reply message in time because you didn't reply to his post directly.
We don't suggest customer to disassemble and fix device privately. Any problems, it would be better to send in for repair.

I'm a long time 'tinkerer' of all things electronic from PC's, laptops, tablets, smartphones, to big screen TV's (tube and LED), audio video receivers, DVD players, etc... etc...    I can count on 1 hand the devices I have not been able to fix, whether it's a loose cable or component replacement on circuit boards. So I am 98% certain that anything I do will not compromise the remote control. With that being said, the nature of the problems that I am having here points to a failed firmware update at best to failing inner components at worst. With that being said, I would be much more comfortable sending this in to be looked at since detailed schematics are impossible to come by and alternative firmware flashing methods are not available. From what I have discovered through research and past experience, this unit simply suffered a 'hiccup' during its last firmware update from 1.9.2 to 1.9.3
The remote itself is in pristine condition and "might" have as many as 10 hours of use.

Well, that's enough out of me, I have started the return process through DJI Support and I will just have to see what they have to say.

I am having a problem charging my controller. It is out of warranty and DJI said I should buy a new one. They are 290.00 from B&H photo; however they are out of stock for at least 6 weeks.  Lots of folks are reporting a similar problem and with the long delay in getting a new one it would be my opinion the P4 controller is defective out of the box and should be recalled. Of course we al know this will not happen.  One must ask the question as to whether the new controller has been corrected or will the new one be subject to the same issues.   I expect the shaft from DJI.

Well I just got an e-mail from B&H Photo and they are telling me the P4 controller has been discontinued. Guess what P4 pilots.... we are screwed big time now. Thanks a lot for nothing DJI.
