Ready for the Titan Cyclone amplified antenna, only a few areas where care is needed otherwise very straightforward. But you do need all the different types of plastic splugger tools.

The Mavic and P4P controllers are next, planning to use the one Titan Cyclone antenna across all three AC
The warranty will be gone, but I think that will be a worthwhile scarafice if I have strong signal and a transmisson back to the ipad.

This is directional antenna.

If you using this antenna during the fly your antenna must always pointing to the aircraft direction, otherwise will easier get signal lost.

Definitely directional but amplified, we will have to see  how it goes
They also have amplified omni directional

Which is just a snap on after the RC conversion or you can use their rabbit ears by themselves, for the more stock function

That is the plan, it's a twist lock for one antenna, I like the idea of a modular system where you can swap antenna types in and out.

Yes, which is probably the preferred frequency for long range
I believe only the 4 Hawks Raptor SR un-amplified supports both channels with a directional antenna

I don't think 2.4ghz is too bad if you can get this sort of signal range. The spark will not go as far due to battery limitations but this is proof the signal from the Cyclone can.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LG2jjOfBF3s

I flew up to 2.5 km on 5.8 GHz in FCC Mode, with original RC antennas
Where the power is higher on 5.8 as it is in 2.4

I do not think, 2.4 with this mod is bad, I just would prefer to have BOTH options, like with the "normal" antenna upgrade.
It may be, that you will have great results in 2.4, but in some areas, I expect even the same or better results in 5.8, then. Less interferences, 5.8, the upper Channels, are not that often to spot as wifi networks.
Don'y you think?

Got my Titan Cyclone, it's such a uncomplicated and easy to use design
I can set 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz on the Spark but Titan tells me 5.8ghz will only work out to a 200ft, I am using wireless to connect to the RC as OTG is limited 50m height and 100m distance

The antenna is quite heavy so you need to balance it out with the mav mount and the Ipad Mini 4.

Just flown some short flights, signal strength is always there, but it is certainly directional, point it at the ground and connection disappears.

The Atlas model with the whip aerials would be better for those environments where you need all around signal coverage, e.g urban environment.

Out in the country side with a clearer ground profile, the directional signal is not a problem.

Ergonomically it is heavy,  without the counter balance of the heavy Ipad it would become a bit taxing on the wrists without a lanyard

I have also modded my controller to install ARGTek pigtails to RP-SMA connectors.
Doing so is quite easy, the hardest part being openning the RC case itself (I made some very light scratches to the plastic).
Argtek have a nice howto video on youtube :

The antennas that where delivered with the kit are crappy (2.4 GHz only) but the pigtail part that goes from the uFL connector on the PCB to the outside of RC is good quality and does not requiere drilling the case. I wish they sell pigtails only.

Once you have SMA connectors installed, you can try a variety of antennas and setups as SMA is really an instrustry standard for RF things.

I tryed ALFA APA-M25 , ALFA  ARS-NT5B and SilverStone SST-WAD17 models. All give pretty good link increase without any kind of additionnal Wifi amplifier.
My favorite is the lastest one as it is a good balance in term of gain (high but not to much in order not being too much directionnal).
I made the mod mostly for getting a strong datalink and not that much for long range.

I also tryed adding some Wifi amplifiers (this model which is dual band  : http://sunhans.com/panel/client/product.php?item=1264)
but this actually does not make difference in performances (at least in FCC mode) because the input power to the amplifier is already too high.
Spec of the amplifier is 20dB max at the input port which in that case is the output of RC. I checked with sunhans support engineer, the amplifier is not distroyed but the signal gets distorded (saturation as you sometimes get if you turn the volume of your hifi to the max)
For facts, I did not observed gain in range with those amplifier, the RC was too big, you need extra batteries, and you get outlaw in terms of radiated power.
My current setup is now with SilverStone SST-WAD17 antennas and I'm very satisfyed that way.

Titan have recently released some new models in the 5.8ghz range, if you primarily fly in urban areas you might want to look at these
