Hi, i am due a phone upgrade and was thinking of getting the iphone X or the 8plus for its bigger screen.  Will there be any issues with firmware or flying with these new phones? i dont want to upgrade and then not be able to fly.

I'm looking to get the 8 plus at my next upgrade. One for the bigger screen and 2 for the better camera on the 8 plus.

the bigger screen appeals to me but whats the battery life like with the bigger screen? flying drains my battery quick! I now take a power bank with me

Very true, but I also have a power bank in my bag, just in case.

I always make sure my phone is fully charged before I go out flying., or have the power bank plugged in en route to the place of flight.

I’ve found that low power mode works quite well in not using too much battery

Sounds like a phone issue. I run the iPhone 6s currently and it doesn't drain after flying 3 batteries with my spark

I have the iPhone 8 Plus and have had no issues. I went from the iPhone 7 so I welcome the slightly larger screen. I wasn't sure how the X would work especially as the Face ID  stuff on it for unlocking could be covered by the RC grip mount, also it would be difficult to get to the edge of the display to press screen buttons etc with the edge to edge display and the RC mounts.

U should rememebr that every  phone  react for app and spark in his own way. As u can search on forum, same model of iphone, note or galaxy in hand of one pilot is excelent, no crashes, second person write  that app doesnt work or have some issues. So asking if current model is ok is also lottery cuz 1/3 od users has issues, rest is ok or work perfect. I e.g. use low budget xperia. its NOT on recommended list - there are from sony only Z3 and Z2 wich are few times more expensive that my M version and i have totatlly no issues (i will try today after i updated app yesterday to 4.1.14) and i saw that Z3 owners have a problems and few didnt have. Same with s8 , note and iphone - one users is satisfied, another  thinks of changing device  to use only with spark without problem.

What is more of a concern to me (and it may be fine!) is the remote gripping the iphoneX and whether because the screen goes right to the edge it will either inadvertently interact with the phone resulting in unwanted button presses or it covers some of the screen buttons. I am an iPhone owner but maybe someone has an edge to edge Samsung model and is using that that may be indicative?
