Sorry about that, your right my problem is most likely hardware not software like this.

Yup, that's a problem with your aircraft... Not the same thing we're discussing here. Good luck getting it fixed.

Hello,

Any news on this subject ? Because i got it too (iPhone: 7Plus // Mavic Air), when i try to define the remote control position as the RTH.
Solution suggested by Jyunte in the post #56 would be a great compromise.

Thanks DJI Thor to follow this subject.

I've literally never been able to set the home point to where my iPhone is, no matter where I am. Go 4 app always complains device GPS signal is weak.

Hi Jyunte, for this issue, our engineers have done the full test on it, and here the conclusion: dear customer, to ensure the flight safety, DJI GO/DJI GO 4 demands a high accuracy to mobile device GPS. It wouldn't be allowed to use it when the accuracy difference is larger than 10 meters. Other apps might not have the accuracy requirement for GPS, thus there might have a big difference of the location info between the app and actual place.

Well here's my test today and I have 16 satellites on my DJI Go 4 app. The following test results are from my new iPad 9.7 with cellular. Clearly, this is a DJI issue.

we might need to ask for the duplicated info if you don't mind since we are not able to reproduce this issue at our side

Suggest DJI's engineers get in some travel time.  Setup DJI / Customer meets around world.  With DJI's own techs as escorts, pre-screening customers who have problems, to weed out simple / obvious fixes or read the manual issues.  DJI's techs passing on to engineers customers with these kinds of problems.  Whereby engineers get to see first hand what said problem looks like.  In this case, a scheduled appointment time and place could be made in advance.

Before someone asks... Yes, it has been done by other companies.

I am running a IPhone X updated IOS, Mavic Pro, and Spark Updated firm ware, and latests DJI 4.2.24.

I get the same weak ass GPS every time.... but yet I have the blue dot right where I need to set the home point......  making it a warning about accuaracey would be better then not allowing you too.

I for example, launch mavic pro, boat gets on plane... and we are running 25-30mph and have ZERO intentions of going back to the home point.... and yet I can move the home point to the controller.  I can only reset the home point to the drone it self... stupid.

I have a DJI Phantom 4 Pro and use an iPad mini 4 with latest ios and Go 4 App.  I have the same problem.  The mini 4 has AT&T and other apps can use the location services fine and they are accurate.

About 1 in 10 times the Go 4 App will let me set the home point to the controller, about 9 out of 10 times it gives me the "The mobile device's GPS signal is weak and its location cannot be acquired" error.

This used to work better, I am in an area with a STRONG GPS signal, the Mini 4 HAS GPS installed, and other apps CAN use it!!

What is up with the DJI app?

I installed GPS Diagnostic on my iPad Mini 4 and it shows that the GPS hardware is present and IS working properly.  This is a bug in the DJI Go 4 APP.  It is demanding more accuracy than the iPad can deliver in all circumstances.  This needs to be addressed!!

Don't mean to beat a dead horse but does anyone think DJI'll finally do something about this glaring bug now that the 2 is out?

I personally have never seen any popular drone Youtubers cover this. Maybe that's what we need to increase the awareness...

I am always getting them warnings either weak image transmission or weak gps signal, I figured that it was the area where I reside, I am surrounded by hills and bush, I never had that warning while in |Nova Scotia, I could fly along the beaches for a long distance however when I get home in Quebec at my residence the warnings start all over again.

That is not the problem we are discussing. Please don't confuse the situation. We are discussing trying to set the home point to the location of the controller, while the aircraft is in flight. The only messages you will receive are for success, or failure due to the device (phone or tablet) having a weak GPS signal. It has nothing to do with the aircraft and the warnings you are talking about.

^^ ya but it seems it is an app thing, not even a drone thing. The feature is entirely related to the app.

It is EXACTLY what you said... It's a problem with the app. That's what we've been saying for many, many months. No other app on my iPad (2017 iPad Pro 10.5" cell+wifi) has a problem finding my location. This includes mapping software for both ground and aerial mapping software. Only the DJI Go 4 app has this problem.

This issue has been going on for months, yes. The issue with the Mavic Pro rotating without user input, and drifting (yawing) badly when flying "straight" has been going on for nearly 2 years!

I can't say if it started with an update or not. I had a perfectly working drone, which I stupidly crashed into the side of the mountain. I had to buy a new replacement from DJI. The replacement rotated without input from the pilot, and, when flying "straight", it would drift 100 yards to the right for every 300 yards it went forward. The replacement came with a different firmware from my original. I went through 5 replacements, each with the same problem, before DJI simply told me, "Your Mavic is operating normally", and stopped responding. During this data, which why on for months, the forums started getting filled with similar reports: https://forum.dji.com/thread-124081-1-1.html

You can count me among the people who experience this issue, one of MANY with the GO 4 app.

The kicker is, I also have an HTC One M9 that I occasionally use to fly my MA, and most recently my M2P (now returned for exchange due to bad gimbal 4 days into ownership), and even though I’d ensure full GPS was turned on way before even powering up the DJI gear or connecting it, the app still claimed weak GPS, it’s a clear bug that DJI refuses to fix.

But then, I’ve come to expect this sloppiness from them!

Hi all

I just found a quick fix on the freaking "Weak GPS" try the following

1. Take off your drone -  aint no matter if its csc or auto takeoff
2. Fly forward a little and hover. (or just hover near you, just to be on the safe side))
3. Move yourself to a different location
4. Unplug the black cable from you phone  (the connector end that attached to the controller)
5. Reconnect the plug/connector
6. go tap on the human icon
7.VOILA!!!!!! CONTROLLER LOCATION IS SET!!!!

EACH TIME YOU WANT TO SET NEW CONTROLLER LOCATION ....JUST PLUG OUT THEN PLUG IN. WORKS ALL THE TIME FOR NOW TILL DJI UPDATE THE APP

that fix does not work here, at least when using the usb on the bottom. Are you using the connection on the side?

They are now denying my return of the product, even though I am in warranty.   I am moments away from calling my credit card company.  This has to be the worse customer service I have ever experienced.  I have a drone that is not advertised and working as described, even though once was.

They first denied the problem, then blamed in on my device, then admitted the problem, and won't fix it, and now won't let me return it.

One of the main reasons I bought THIS drone was to use this follow feature.

I'm having the same issue.  Yesterday I took it out on the lake with both the iPhone X and an iPad with clear Skys.  I can not get the DJI Go 4 app to recognize my mobile GPS device signal.  Next step for me is to load DJI Go 4 app to my Galaxy S8 and see what happens.

So I am getting the same error message on the Galaxy S8 relating to failure to receive GPS device signal in order to utilize setting the home point to the display device.  Using the Galaxy S8 was not done at the lake but in my backyard with open view to the sky but some trees and homes surrounding.  I let the device stand on a table for over 10 minutes with no change in results.  I also retried the iPhone X and made sure that the DJI Go 4 app was turned on in location services receiving access always, not just when using the app.  My opinion is that the app is not getting access to the GPS data on the devices even though as a user we are trying to grant this.  That opinion is based on how quickly the app generates the notice of weak GPS Signal from the device.  It is immediate/instant.

Dear DJI and community,

I'm owning a M2Z and running it since 2-3 weeks with the DJI GO 4 (4.3.4) on iPad 4 LTE mini.
It's without doubt a great bird and it's fascinating what the engineers at DJI achieved. Great job guys!

And here comes my little problem.....
As many of the users here I ran into the same weird issue of not being able to set the RTH homeposition to the mobile device.
I can confirm, that this is very annoying especially when operating the bird not from a fixed point but moving along with the remote controller significant distances (several hundred meters) during a flight.
I'm typically using the drone for recording landscapes and riders on horses.

I understand after reading through this thread (and many other reports on the internet as well) that the problem might be a bit more complicated than most users think. (I should add, that I work as an embedded SW/HW engineer with > 20 years experience and in private I'm developing hardware and software for quadcopters).

May I make a little suggestion to the DJI engineers?
What do you think about if despite a "weak GPS signal" the user is allowed to set the (obviously pretty accurate) location of the mobile device (as can be checked in the map) as new RTH position anyway at his own risk?
I think most users would appreciate this possibility.

Accuracy is beyond 2-3m? So what...?
If you are hundreds of meters away from the starting point you don't care, if the new RTH position (your mobile device) has an accuracy of lets say 10-15m.
Typically (my experience) many users prefer to catch the bird with the hand and/or to land the drone manually nearby, if necessary.

Dear DJI guys, please please please please give us this option to ignore this "weak GPS signal" message, if it is truly only because of the bad accuracy why you deny setting the RTH position to the mobile device position.
If it's another issue, maybe because of an software API problem or whatever, then fix it. You can, I'm quite sure :-)

Any response from DJI here is greatly appreciated!

I know, but I thought, it might help to increase the "public pressure" a bit....
This non-feature is surely not a recommendation.
I also contacted DJI now directly via email.

Maybe only a handful users depend on that feature, but nevertheless it must work because of being a sold feature.

Has anyone here tried to solve this with an external GPS receiver (XGPS150 or similar) ?
I'm not willing to spend lots of extra bucks to overcome some easy to solve (by DJI) issues....
