Trying to make a short movie from some of my first clips but windows movie maker preview screen is blank. I also have video from a friends camera and it previews without a problem. Both are mp4. My computer is running windows 7 with a good quality graphics card. I shot in 1080p at 30 frames per second. Have others used Windows Movie Maker without issue or have you found a solution to the blank preview screen?

When I load a movie into movie marker my screen is also blank. But that's only because for the first few minutes movie maker is preparing the movie so it can be edited. Once that's complete you should be able to see the movie.

Agree sometimes it takes several minutes for it to create a preview

I tried the GoPro software but it wouldn't let me edit because I wasn't editing a GoPro file.

In order to make MP4 video clips compatible with WMM, you'll need to encode MP4 to Windows Movie Maker natively supported formats like WMV or AVI in advance.

Starship,
I recorded a new video in MP4 and tried to edit it in GoPro Studio. I got the same results as before. "Triming available only for GoPro source clips"
What am I doing wrong?

Starship,
I recorded a new video in MP4 and tried to edit it in GoPro Studio. I got the same result ...

I had an old version.  Just downloaded the new one to match your version.

Here's how to do it.    Add the clip to the conversion list....... convert.... go to next step....... drag clip to timeline..... then do your edit.  Once the clip is converted, and inserted into the timeline, there are a whole bunch of editing features.

Add the clip to the conversion list....... Okay got that convert....  Okay got that go to next step....... This is where I no longer see my convertered clip, so I can't drag it to the timeline.

When you click on "Go to next step", you should be presented with a choice of templates.  I pick BLANK TEMPLATE.  At the next screen you should see your video in the upper left side.  Drag the video to the timeline.  That's where you do your editing.

I'll see if I can do a quick step by step video.... stay tuned.
