Hello,
I am considering buying the DJI Spark drone and primarily using it with the DJI Controller. I googled the maximum range(since it is a quite important factor for me)and received ranges from 2km right up to 4km. If any of you bought the DJI Spark drone can you please tell me the realistic maximum range for you guys?
Thanks in advance

Personally I don't fly further away than 300m. The Spark is very small and keeping it in sight can get tricky. Also it isn't allowed by law in the EU to fly far away ( 500m - to be confirmed )
What kind of shots do you plan? 2-4 km away: remember you have max 10-12min of flight time.

Is it your first drone?

Please stop dreaming, with this approach you will not have your Spark for long. Better read the specs, user manual and your national drone regulations carefully first.

if you want long distances get a mavic drone . in eu mode the Spark performance is flakey after 300 meters.

The flight distance sometimes relates to the flight environment, and the flight region also matters a lot. The pic below is the max flight distance specs for Spark in a good condition (unobstructed, free of interference) in RC mode, if you need more specs info, please visit here. Spark max distance RC.png

haha 4km please..
In Europe , with android device ( witch will in 90% cases connect to the RC on 2.4gHz band) you will find yourself "out of range" at 150m , because of the 5.8gHz CE limit

In the US - you have to keep in sight at all times per regulation ,unless you get a 107 license and get a waiver from the FAA etc..

In that case you can go about a mile with the spark in perfect conditions

I’ve flown up to 1km with no issues In cleared areas (ie a field or off a beach).   This is against regulations (in australia) as you must have visual sight at all times...but i did it.

I’ve also flow as little as 300-400m from a valley over a hill and lost connectivity.   Thankfully the RTh feature kicked in and it flew back to me where I re-established connectivity

I have seen videos of people flying further than 2km.  I think up to 4km with range extenders.

It doesn’t take long until a spar is out of site though...probably 300m

If distance is what your looking why are you even considering Spark, because considering spark distance would be last on your list.

I once flew the spark and 900 ft and had some errors but other than that I believe it can exceed 1000ft. See watchberger for evidence

He googled it and yet he still has to ask the question.

He googled and got the specified range, which is often different from the effective range.  He wanted actual feedback on what people have experienced.    It’s a reasonable question.  I was curious to know what other people as well

Guy on the Mavic forum got almost 2.5 miles range over the open ocean without the range extenders.  Sadly not enough battery life to get back.

https://forum.dji.com/thread-129390-1-1.html
I'm finding the flight time goes quick if you go any distance.  You want to be planing to come back with battery life to spare incase something goes wrong.

I flew out 9216' (1.7 miles) with OTG cable and antenna range extender, from an elevated position. At that distance, I had 54% battery life left for the return flight home. I had navigation strobes on the Spark, which made it visible and using red and green strobes, could tell direction of flight as well.

What kind of strobes are visible from 1.7 miles away? Link to these please or didn't happen.

EASILY visible from that distance. I also use the 4 led unit as a downlight in non-strobe mode as a landing light.

I think its pointless to fly beyond its limits all you have to do is move physically closer to the site you want to film. 300 or 500 is more than i need to get shots. Get a pro drone if you want range i say.

As you are in NZ I think you will be falling under CE mode. Which won’t allow you to go over 500 meters distance. Which to me is a terrible, horrible and disgusting range. Hahahhahahaha
You can easily switch your spark to FCC mode. You will only need an android device in order to trick the drone so it thinks you are in the US.
FCC mode is much more stable and reliable. Mine is hacked into fcc mode. My record is 4.5km distance from the home point, all over the sea without obstacles. In the city it goes 2.5 km distance from the home point.
These numbers are real and I can prove. But to play on the safe side the 3km mark is realistic when in FCC mode.
Buy a antenna booster. It’s a silly looking piece of plastic that fits the antennas, directs the signal forward so you have a much better range. It looks silly but really works.

My record on my Yuneec q500+ is 800 meters.
