The Olympus 12mm should be sharp around f/3.5 to f/4.
Olympus did do a version change to the firmware in that lens back in Nov. 26, 2015 to version 1.1 which addresses the following:
1. Supports MF clutch (Snapshot Focus) disabled settings in camera settings.
2. Stability of lens aperture when shooting videos has been improved.
I have the 45mm lens and it went through two version changes to version 1.2 now. When I bought it, it had only version 1.0 so who knows how long it sat. I had to send it to Olympus Service as I had no Olympus camera body and their software to upgrade it and it cost me $140. When I spoke to the repair tech, he said "It improved on the video quality" maybe due to #2 above.
Fwiw, there are two versions of the 12mm. One was called "Limited Black" and the firmware is different for it. Just what is different I don't know, but if you have a Panasonic camera you use the Olympus 12mm lens on and try to update the lens firmware, you have two options:
Normal 12mm Silver or Black: Olympus 12mm normal lens for use on Panasonic body.
Limited Black 12mm: Firmware update for Limited Edition 12mm lens on Panasonic body.
