This is a serious problem, I tried my Mavic on many phones with v4.15 to rule out a phone as being an issue, or some hardware issue with the Mavic. Over the last several days there is a ton of people it seems affected by DJI's latest update from earlier this month (talking about v. 4.10 to 4. 15 on Android). All the main issues being reported are exactly what I had experienced starting around Nov 10 when I updated and flew my Mavic on vacation. I am not sure if it was fixed yet, I think there was an app update yesterday (Nov 28?) to address this. Unfortunately for me about 10 days ago now, I lost my Mavic because of this issue with video transmission and app lag! I am a very experienced pilot and well aware of all the possible things that can become issues on a flight. I was in Maui, 2nd last day when I lost it For several days leading up to my fatefull last flight I was reporting this in the forums, I was losing my mind trying to get it to work as all vacation I had such poor performance (biggest issue being the lag time from command to response; eg taking pictures was very hard!). Moderator DJI Thor and a couple others were actively helping me out with this issue while I was on vacation. Luckly I had family with me and kids with multiple phones to experiment with I switched to a Sony Z5 and Z3 as they were on the 'compatability list' even though I've had great performance out of my OnePlus One (otherthan the video lag/transmission issue) to date. I was having difficulties downgrading to v 4.10 and it was easier to install and use another phone(s). I ended up flying my last flight on the Galaxy S7 (it seemed ok also on the Z5/3 but I went with the S7 as prior to using a OnePlus One as a dedicated (spare) device for the Mavic, I didn't have issues with an S6 Edge that I used to use with it) - all seemed ok until I was preparing to bring it home- then was shocked to have the video loss and app lag cause me to lose it. I was LOS the whole time too and still can't believe it is gone. Last known GPS didn't help me locate it either; I suspect that app lag and/or video loss might have caused it to auto-land in a different area than the last GPS fix showed; I think the RC may have even disconnected. I was so focussed at looking back/forth at the Mavic and the RC/Phone especially in the last moments so as to avoid a water landing (I was over a beach), I am quite sure that I ensured it was over land in the final moments. This was my strategy at controlling it in the last moments- to make for certain that it was over land since with all the app issues and transmission link issues it was not possible for me to fly it home. At one point (before it went into auto-land mode due to low battery) I had the ability to use RTH, that failed due to app lag so I opted to do it manually. RTH had always worked for me in the past, but not this time of course! I also didn't trust RTH with the latest v4.15 update...as I noticed that several times the app told me that I would be "Limited to Xm and Xm distance"...even though I never experienced any limitation. This made me believe that I could not trust what my max altitude / max distance or even my RTH Altitude settings were. I've gone over and over the situation in my head and honestly don't believe there is anything I personally could have done differently to have prevented this. I was very conservative with my flight given what my recent experiences with the software were. It goes to show how wrong things can go in a short timeframe when you don't have telemetry or acurate telemetry and/or video, even when VLOS. FYI, DJI Thor has followed up with me after I lost my Mavic and has given his support except for I haven't heard any official response from DJI in the forums that they have a serious issue with their app. It appears by yesterday's (Nov 28th) update #2 to the app that they have quietly (?) fixed it. Time will tell. But be very cautious in case they have not fixed this---I was very cautious and even so, it cost me to lose my Mavic! Sorry if I have too much info above, but I type fast
Sorry again for your loss, Randy, have you started the case? Could you please provide me with your case number? I would like to check some info on your case. |
