The regulations that are being introduced someday in the UK are as a registration system. Any drone pilot that is to fly for no monetary gain will have to take a safety test/registration. This is to help prevent any more bad news on the TV or in the newspapers with idiot pilots not taking any regard for the UK drone rules. There have been vids posted on this forum that show that certain people are not taking these rules into consideration. It's an attempt to stop dooshbags spoiling it for the pilots that actually follow the rules laid down in our country. There is a rumour that existing licence holders may have to pay more to get or renew a licence but as of yet there is nothing laid down or a nailed down date for the start of this registration. There is also a factor of the weather and not being able to fly in Autumn/Winter so people sell - Don't have time to fly etc etc. Xmas is coming so there will be a lot more drones on fleabay and in the ads due to little Timmy not being able to fly it or people bought one due to thinking they want to fly a drone. I would keep hold of your drones as a personal view unless you can't be bothered. I don't agree that existing pilots should possibly pay more to renew a licence or buy one fresh but that's the UK government. We should be used to getting shafted by now. A lot of people approach me while flying and state - You need a licence for that. It's a shame I know and follow the rules and shoot them down politely. Drones are still quite new to most and despite the supposed sales figures, I have never been in the same area of anyone else flying a drone unless I have arranged to meet. I do think though, that the government has read into this incorrectly. If they count the number of drones purchased in the UK against issues reported and near misses, then they would maybe see that there is no need for this registration scheme. There will still be thousands of pilots out there when they do bring it in that don't bother at all. My end view is that if you have nothing to hide then it won't affect you in the long run. This is all just personal opinion and following this online of course. The link below is direct from the government site and still states - To be introduced -
