Lately prior to flying I receive the messge to update My Geofencing file now or ignore. Since I do not have access to the internet while in the field I attemted to do this while home over Wifi. Both attempts for me to download the Geofencing files it tells me not to disconnect from the aircraft while downloading, but it never starts, just sits there at 0% until after about 10 minutes of waiting I just cancel out without downloading the files. Is it necessary to do this and has anyone else had this issue?

Happened to me to, did update after many retries. Not necessary to update your MP will fly nice without this update

Geo Fencing either un-restricts or restricts areas you are allowed to fly in (the latter being more prevalent).

Mine was the same way.  I tried off and on for a couple of weeks, maybe a half dozen times.  It seemed to always fail.  Finally one day it worked properly and updated on the spot (all attempts were done within a few feet of the router on wifi).  Just keep trying.

Hi there, the drone might be locked in where it shouldn't be if the database is not updated, so we suggest updating it. Have you tried to update the Geofencing database via DJI Assistant 2? Please try and see if it works.

I never had to use DJI Assistant 2 prior for any updates but I'll give it a try. When you use the DJI assistant 2 for updating Geofencing, is it necessary to have the controller connected to the aircraft or just the aircraft connected to the computer? Thanks

No, you don't have to have the controller connected.  I had the same problem originally trying to update the Geofencing.  Kept failing for days so I decided to try DJI Assistant 2.  Worked GREAT!  The other way is such a hassle.   With DJI Assistant 2, just connect the Spark via USB and wait for it to connect.  Then launch DJI Assistant. I think I'll do all my firmware updates with this from now on. It's also MUCH faster.

Thanks for the useful info. The geofencing finally did download when I was least expecting it. I had everything connected when I was home just uploading maps to the system and it ask me to download the geofencing and it did. Thanks again for the response.

That sounds odd.  Try rebooting your mobile device?

Its been a couple of weeks now and it hasn't asked me to do it again although it did with my phantom the next time I used it.

There for a while about 3 weeks ago I received the prompt to do it but when the I clicked update now it would just sit there at 0% forever till I finally cancelled. I did this for a few days then finally just gave up. Then just recently it started working. Go Figure.

That's odd. There have been a few geofencing database, FW and GO 4 app updates lately. I seem to spend more time updating my drones than flying them LOL

It seems like the mavic has had quite a few updates lately. So I updated with no issues so far.
