I'm just pondering buying a tablet & realized that the 'Samsung galaxy tab S 10.5' version is quite a piece of kit & might not fit into the holder of the remote. What is the maxium dimensions for the remotes holding jaws?!?

Wondering the same thing.  First time Phantom owner ... feels like I'm a kid at Christmas waiting for it to arrive.
Going to have to buy a tablet for the remote and thinking one of the Samsungs...but which one...

Compare the batteries & then compare the usage times also. I'm looking to get a deal from 3g store for the 15gb data plan LTE version. Got told  to grab a otterbox to ruggedize the samsung also, well worth the £69. Which after doing a bit of research indeed would be a great addon for a device that will live indoors most the  time but when used outside, could well do with protection.

Still waiting on a moderator with information on the remote tablet/phone holders maximum opening length please!

Gents,
The remote tablet/phone holder for the Phantom 3 appears to be the same one used on the Inspire 1 transmitter which, at maximum opening, will just barely accommodate an iPad Air 2 in landscape orientation (170 mm).  It's possible, of course, that DJI listened to complaints/comments on the Inspire 1 forum about the maximum opening size of the tablet/phone holder and made the max. opening size bigger for the new Phantom 3 transmitter tablet/phone holder.

Seems it was made just wide enough for Apple's ipad air 2 but just a couple mm too small for Samsung's 10 inch tablet.
I wonder if that was done on purpose.

I use the galaxy tab 4 10.01 I had to cut out the rubber pads to make it fit, then I had to grind out the middle of the bottom bracket to make it slightly  wider so I could plug in the usb cable, works great

I am still waiting for mine it is supposed to ship from B&H Photo on the 11th however I intend to use a Samsung note 10.1 and what I plan to do is to leave it in a thin silicon case with a bracket attached to the back which will then fit into the clip this will give me a very large screen while flying and with my old eyes this works great.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1"  (with GPS) and it is too big to fit between the clamp arms, as stated it's 170mm, whereas the Tab 4 needs 180mm +/- 1mm. My solution is to hot glue a section of 25x25mm plastic angle about 75mm long on the top edge of the clamp. Also requires a cut out to allow the micro usb connector to fit into the tablet which is installed upside down. I'm keeping my arrangement as it is because the screen allows easy reading of all the control symbols, but I think the 8" would suit most operators as it fits without modification to the top clamp, though the usb connector cannot fit through the gap on the lower clamp. Edit: install the tablet slightly off centre.

Hi
Sorry for not looking at forum, have some issues with my motor home (R V) have been flying and crashing lots.
1  My crib for the galaxy 10.5 works well at holding the tab..but a 10" tab is too heavy and large for the controller. I M H O having tried some stays braces etc, it overbalances the controller to the extent, that you pay more attention to the controller than the scene unfolding(hence three crashes).the LAST ONE RESULTED IN AN APPARENT MOTOR FAILURE,  On checking with the forums went a bit pale, tales of esm and mosfet failure abound what ever that is) however this seems to be connected to the phantom 2.
The best scheme I have come up with is to spend another weeks pension on a Nexus 7 2nd gen.
The dji works flawless on it, but you will need a good sun shade as the screen is not as bright as the Galaxy..with the 7 the controller is v stable and you seem to be able to walk about much easier, looking at both drone and screen, it is like the screen is part of controller(which it now is)I got a nearly new nexus on ebay for 110 quid(even came in its old box. seems to me like sense as three crashes are a bit much
Actually fair play to DJI for making such a robust machine(see DJI formus for what the earlier models did)
Luck and go well
Osc

Samsung galaxy A 9.7" is what i use. It fits percectly but anything bigger and it will not work without modification. The tablet is decently priced and works really well. Other then that the next best option is a smaller tablet oreferably high resolution woild be best. The only thing i would change on the galaxy A is the resolution to better keep up with my phantom 3 professional. But i fully enjoy it as is.

I cut the foam on the top and bottom of the holder, and with a little pressure The Samsung Tab 4  fits fine. Don't off-center the Tab 4 as it will be unwieldy and tippy. Use a rat file and enlarge the slot at the bottom, so the USB plug will fit. I've done all that and love the set-up. Have bought a replacement Holder, just in case.....Covering bases perhaps.

Hello there
ok ok so here it is: I realize that the remote will need aupgrade if I use the max size tablet (http://store.dji.com/product/ins ... 701b6e4a413c4bbc07e) ... but thinking it would be better to have a larger screen size...and morepower under the mobile devices hood...for logging pics vids all in oneplace...that being said I have put my questions out there in many forms withlittle or no reply, so I wanted to say THANK YOU for responding so quickly.

That being said, now that I have your attention here is whatI am working on or doing. Buying a new dedicated device for my P3P. I have beenlooking at a few models in the android flavor.
Because I raced cars and trucks with the local club for anumber of years I learned very fast and early on that you can spend a lot ofmoney that you don`t need too buying the wrong gear starting out. If you talkwith some one that has been doing whatever RC-ing that you are entering in toyou will save a lot of time and money starting with the gear that you will mostlikely end up with.
So I am hoping to open a line of communication with you onthis subject as the forums have been no to this help to date.

My galaxy pro tab 10.1 fits. Its a tight fit, but it's very secure. The foam on top top of the bracket gets a little torn, but not bad.

Hi, I fly a P3S with the Galaxy S 8.4 (wifi version) http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_s_8_4_lte-6435.php
I needed to buy a separate holder for my P3P controller but this Samsung Tablet has turned out to be a very good choice for this application.
The aspect ratio of this model is narrow,  being only 125.6 mm wide, it is not as wide as other tablets. this also reduces the weight.
So my main point here is: LOOK AT ASPECT RATIO TOO, not only AT DIAGONAL INCHES .

anyway, other things I like about this tablet are:
Superb Screen: Amoled with fantastic contrast, punchy colors (if you like) and solid sunlight visibility. It also has a high resolution.
Superb price: beacuse its an aging tablet, you can find one used, refurbished or even new at a very low price.
miro SD: this is helpful to plug the one from the quadcopter and see the full res videos.
Decent Procesor: It's not crazy fast, it lags here and there a little, but it still runs solid.
Decent Battery: I fly 1 hour (3 phantom batteries) and then review some of the videos I recorded.

this is what I mean ( hope you can see it):

TABLET                                           H           W                         Screen Diagonal          weight
Apple iPad Air 2:                        240    x 169.5  x  6.1 mm         9.7 in                        437 g
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4:     212.8 x 125.6  x  6.6 mm         8.4 in                        298 g
Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0:   198.6 x 134.8  x  5.6 mm         8.0 in                        265 g
