Recently I've been getting a lot of compass errors on my P3 Std.  I've even taken it out to open fields to try and see if this helps and I've had no luck.  When I try to calibrate the compass, it always fails on me as well.  Any insight to this?

Are you doing a little more than a 360 when calibrating?

I'm turning until the screen prompts me to flip the drone.

Once I flip the drone and finish turning the drone, for the second round, that's when I get the error.  Always happens at that point.  Granted I've been able to fly it without calibrating the compass, but I'm running the risk of it having some fly away issues.

If it was really something bad with the compass, it wouldn't even fly.

It's weird.  I rarely use the return to home function and usually bring it close to me before the battery ever gets to that level.  Sometimes it'll set a home point where I'm at on it's own.  It always says there's some strong magnetic interference, not sure where it's coming from though.  My spark doesn't have the same issues flying in the same spots.

I really don't know on this one.  Just keep an eye on it.   Maybe someone else can help you.

Thanks, I've been seeing things about this CFIXER device, may try it out in the meantime.

CFIXER?  Do it far away if you sued it and want to calibrate the compass again.

Do it far away? I'm a bit confused as to what you're saying here.

After the fixing during calibration of the compass. That word means "used".

Have you got the controller on you when you are calibrating the compass?

Mark G.

The controller is near me, but not in my hands.  It's weird because yesterday I went out to get some B-Roll and it calibrated just fine.

How close are you to your car?  Are you calibrating before every flight?

Mark G.

I'm nowhere near my car.  Yesterday when I flew it was roughly in the same open space, just about 500 yards East of my normal takeoff area.  Calibrated just fine in that spot.  The spot where it fails is wide open.  A dirt trail, some dead trees and a ton of dead grass.  The place I calibrated at yesterday, where I had no issue, has a huge metal bridge right by it.

in the same location ...if you calibrate every time you are going to fly ...you can get an erroneous calibration ...

So far it seems like the calibration in another location is working.  I'll have to go to a few more locations to see if it continues to work.

If you have a good calibration, LEAVE it!  Seriously dude, like Nebuchadnezzar says.

Yes, degauss your compass module. And do not place your aircraft on anything that contains magnets such as loud speakers, etc

I definitely keep it away from anything that has large magnets in it.  Thanks for the tip!

I calibrated the compass one time only.that was after activation of my bird on a field near by my home far away from any metal, magnetic or not. I ´d leave it up to now with no issues.

Try force stopping the dji app prior to flying and powering everything up. I had the same problem, solved by doing that as well as other app glitches. Start tx, ac, and open previously force stopped app. If it doesnt ask you for a compass calibration, its good for go. IF you have LItchi on your phone/tablet for flying, force stop that as well.
