Hi there I just saw this video and thought I wanted to share it with you, what do you think about it? What else could a drone be used for?

That’s great, here’s another project I worked on sometime ago it’s still growing and being developed but it was a great experience.

I've seen DroneSAR videos before, it's really great. I'm the coordinator of the local rescue squad's drone team and something like that would be useful. The big problem is, it's WAY too expensive, we can barely afford to put gas in the trucks. Oh well, maybe I'll win the lotto....

It is expensive, it’s a great program I spent three days training with that team up in Donegal great experience.

No it wasn’t me , but I was there that weekend dji who are sponsors of the program were also there giving a talk.
I was on a training exercise on behalf of our local community, it was certainly the best few days I spent flying and learning.
The dronesar software and training is still being developed although there are some using it now, I think their hope is to get dji fully on board so as to bring the price which is extremely high to a level where all small communities could afford to use it, the guys who developed are extremely forward thinking and big into their drones, hopefully it is something we will see more and more used in SAR in the near future.

It is truly amazing, and I do see this becoming the norm in our future with drone technology.

Yeah unfortunately it's expensive but I think this is the future so I hope it gets more affordable.

I’ve done the training for it on behalf of our small community, unfortunately like FatherXmas it’s not affordable yet, I do some SAR for my community voluntarily when requested I love the challenge, it’s mostly being searching for lost animals as I live in a rural area, I have done some searches along our shore for suicide victims which is challenging. I really love doing it and have found that I’m being asked more often and hopefully will be in the future.

Has a drone saved a life?  Or is this title about the hypothesis?  I always wondered about drone's usefulness considering its short flight time and range.

Has it found people or animals in the mountains, yes I’m led to believe it has, I once found a Frisian Heffer (cow) for my neighbour, has it saved life I suppose locating someone and preventing them getting into further life threatening situation quicker than a human on foot thus saving time is this life saving, we will never know unless we can look into the future.
This particular program can cover an area much quicker and safer than a human, there is limitations but that’s not the point we must use the benefits of drones where they have advantages over human frailty .

Apparently in Spain they have used drones more than once to drop lifebelts out to drowning people, but I guess its more the potential use of it that I was thinking of when i wrote the title, as the video does not show any specific case of it.

If the drone has a water hose attached or a rope for a flotation device, I would think it could also have a power cord which would give it unlimited flight time. Just a thought.

Sounds like a good use for the drone.  And the short flight is a benefit since the point is to do it faster than swimming out or driving a jetski out.  The rescue people can then arrive later since the victim now has a life belt.
