As I did it, but not the only way... (Assuming you already did first battery along with bird and remote controller)

http://youtu.be/zZH07LEHpPg

1. Download firmware and extract files.
2. Erase all data on a micro SD by formatting or deleting all data (quick format ok) and add just the firmware by itself (see video). (After first update just delete everything and leave the firmware software by itself and continue on to next battery. I even deleted the camera folders created... It will create them if they are not there everytime... See video.
3. Insert SD card on I1.
4. Turn RC on. Wait for it to initialize.
5. Turn APP on. wait for it to initialize. Accept and the "trust" warning.
6. Turn bird on. See video.
7. Wait and let it initialize. If it needs to update firmware on battery it will tell you on app and start updating at the same time (see video). 4 shorts beeps followed by silence and repeats means it is updating... Long beep followed by two short beeps means it is complete... (See video) use the beeps and not visual on app. See vid.
8. Turn Bird Off.
9. Turn app off.
10.Turn RC off.
11.Remove SD card from bird. See video.
12.Insert SD in computer and browse to it.
13.Verify .txt file. See video if "abort" message comes up the battery already has latest firmware, if it updated firmware it will hopefully say "success", if "failed" message go back to 2 and repeat steps. If success or abort go to step 2 and repeat process for next battery.

I know you can also update batteries without remote and app being turned on, but I like to be able to see confirmation on app..
Hope this helps...

I READ the instructions a few times before updating and before making video and this thread and actually does not specify either way!

Are you sure it ain't broken? According to many reports in here, the firmware was responsible for quite a few mishaps. According to some beta testers, this update is supposed to fix them.
Good luck though...
