I noticed today that one of my batteries has a total capacity of 6090mAh, is this unusually high? Or is it perfectly safe to use?

Your battery should be max capacity 5870 and you're concerned because it reads 6090.

I've bought a lot of P2 batteries that were supposed to be 5200 and some would show as much as 5350.  And they were very fine batteries.  

So using that as a gauge, I wouldn't worry about it.  In fact, I'd be happy about it.

I think I agree, it's a good thing.  Just wondered if it was overcharging or something, knowing how delicate Lipos can be.

Can anyone beat 6090?

As you said LIPO are not only delicate but dangerous so I would keep and eye on it when charging it or charge it individually in a LIPO bag.
