It's a plastic protection for control sticks and display.
There are a lot of different mavic remote protectors on the market, some only for the sticks and some for sticks and display.

But what's the point of a display protector if you cannot see your display?

It's only sits there while the RC is not in use... a kind of transport safety so the RC does not get damaged in the backpack.

Anyone know if this will take an iPad Mini 4 ? I know it says it can take an iPhone X, not sure how much bigger the iPad Mini is to that.

It’s a cover for the joysticks.

Looking at most all phone mounts for the Mavic and other drone RC's cover the antennas similar as this one? yes/no? Especially the larger RC's.

Certainly not all. I just ordered one like the one in the video below and it does not cover antennas.

I never said "all" but again like that one it will depend on which way the AC is at. If the AC is at your back then yes they are blocked but naturally you would not stand that way as you want to keep LOS.

One thing I don't like too much about this holder is that there's is not much of an opportunity to adjust the screen.

I do a lot of jobs with the Mavic Pro and people are always wanting to see the screen whether I use the iPad or iPhone.

Either way I wouldn't be able to turn the screen at an angle for them to see comfortably while I fly.

I found a $15 holder on amazon that has like a red coating where you put the phone/ipad (only on of its kind).

It is incredibly adjustable according to reviews and I'll be able to make a review of my own once I start using it!

I bought the DJI version (had some credits to use up) Here.

Works well with my iPad 9.7 Pro and will accommodate bigger tablets.

This is what I use on the Mavic Pro, Morecycle, Boat and FJ Cruiser. I just buy 1" ball bases for different things like cup holder, bar mount etc.. then I just move the clamp were needed.
on the Mavic I bolted the base to a board that slides into the RC. I will post photo soon.

Works good for me.

But in Europe we fly not with FCC power, but with CE power and putting a iPad mini in a holder on top of the remote controller influences the signal. It bounces between 100 % and 75 % when the distance is 600 feet. So it will do the same, to a lesser degree in the US. But I like the screen  position and I keep using it. The Lanyard I attached to the bottom of the iPad mini and the balance is outstanding. But when I want to fly further away I put the iPad where it was ment to be.
