Anybody know the measurments of the camera lens. Since it does not come with a cap I though it I can get the dimentions I could find a compatible lens cover to protect suring transport..

It doesn't come with a lens cap?  That sounds odd...

The Phantom 2 came with a cap... I would find it hard to believe that the P3 doesn't...

Not seen a lens cap in any video of "un-boxing". Maybe its again a case of wait to see as testers might not have had one. Does not mention it in the "What's in the box" page on DJI site either ( then again, does not mention the FREE backpack ).

I did not receive on in my preproduction unit.  I cannot say that it will not be included on the production units.

I received mine 4/29/15 and there is NO lense cap.

I can confirm - NO lens cap on production units. I wish there was

Whats the measurement of the lens? Maybe we can get after market ones  that fit over it..

Who is the best person to contact about this. You have to agree that it is ridiculous not to have a lens cap for this camera. We need one asap.

no it doesn't fit, the P3 lens is bigger.

I recieved the Phantom 3 Professional, and no, it does not come with a lens cap. Just a cheap plastic film you peel off the lens when you unbox it. This should've been included, the lens is going to get scratched fairly easily without one. I even asked if there was going to be one included a couple weeks ago in the online chat, and the person told me that it would ship with one. But then again, no one at DJI even knows what their talking about. I'm just tired of being lied to. First the backpack, then the lens cap. Whats next?
How can some of these people even work for DJI, when they know so little about their own product?

I'll probably use a screen protector

Can someone with a phantom 3 give me the diameter of the lens?

Another little mystery: In the two unboxing videos I have seen, the camera protector/lock falls off when the drone is lifted out of the box for the first time. This means that it was either not put on correctly at the factory or shook loose during transport. Either way there is a problem that could damage some cameras during shipment.

No lens cap in the box.
camera diameters are:
-  exterior edge to edge: 31mm
- lens edges: 28mm

Mine measures 31.43 mm

Hahaha, & I was just going ask if anyone here has  a 3-D printer too...
I think that's a great idea, if you can make one out of semi rigid plastic, or better yet rubber.

That came out of the printer very nice.
Me too also need one, as I desire that kind of protection, especially if I go 4k!! We have got to keep that front element pristine...

I never bothered with a lens cap on my p2. I figured whatever that lens faced on top of some counter at home, back seat of my car or inside a backpack would be nothing compared to the bugs it flew into. Anyway, no problems from not using one.

There is no lens cover on the P3 as it already has one! On your units is a threaded clear glass cover and when un-threaded behind this lies your main lens.
For those that wish to use a ND (neutral density) filter best option seems to be to buy something like a " Kodak 3 x 3" Neutral Density (ND) #96 0.90 Optical Gelatin Wratten Filter ",  (BTW it is not gelatin but a film, and 0.90 is about a 2 stop reduction) cut to size, un-thread cap and place inside. Gleaned this from rcgroups....

Nice job man! looks like it works great! I dont have a 3d printer, so I'll probably end up cutting out a piece of styrofoam or something lol

@Gatorone30 and @redhotpoker I would be happy to print one for you if you would like..I am not looking to get rich on these just help our fellow enthusiasts of UAV Technology  and I figured my break even cost with shipping anywhere in the US would be $7.  let me know if interested and also note that this material has only one drawback and that, it has to be printed slowly so this print took about 1.5 hours on high resolution.

If I was the designer, I might integrate the lens cap as part of the gimbal lock.  I figure you pretty much put them on in the same situations, so why not make them one piece?

Have you actually been able to remove the cover?  I put the gimbal clamp on to brace the camera and tried to unscrew the cover but it seems to be torqued down pretty tight!

If anyone is still looking for some lens caps for the phantom 3, I now stock them in my store. Perfect fit with pull tabs, rubber construction for great flexability, 3 colors to choose from: White, Black, and Translucent Red. 2x for 10 bucks shipped.
