How To Set Up Two Different Shots - Similar to 3DR Solo

Was checking out the 3DR Solo today and noticed two shots that the software does:

Cable Cam
"A virtual cable for the automatic perfect shot". I like this because I'd be able to set up two points and then the drone will just fly to/from them and I can concentrate on framing shots.

ORBIT
"Circle an object for an iconic “wrap-around” shot". Challenging to do manually.

Details on these two types of shots are here: http://3drobotics.com/smart-shots/

I have an Inspire1 but I don't have much experience with it yet, so I'm wondering if there is a way in the DJI Pilot app to achieve something similar? If yes, any quick explanation or docs you can point me at is appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Chad

Not yet supposedly groundstation will be coming out but with DJI you never know if it will or not  So no not currently and unknown for future.

Here are some work-arounds:

CABLE CAM:
- Get the two points you want to film between in line directly away from you.
- Set your return to home altitude at the height you want to shoot at.
- Fly past the farthest point.
- Hit the 'return to home' button.
- The Inspire will fly directly home and you will be free to control the camera

ORBIT
- Point the camera forward and point the Inspire directly at the point you want to film
- Fly the Inspire directly left or right
- Carefully point the front of the Inspire with the yaw control as it moves sideways to keep the center of interest in the center of your shot.
- You can add some forward or backward motion to the shot if you want to fly away or toward the object.
- This becomes quite smooth and easy with a little practice.

There are other ways to achieve the same things, but neither of these are too difficult with a little practice.

@Lloyd -

I like your hack for the Cable Cam. Good thinkin'.
For Orbit - yeah, that is what I was planning to do.

Hopefully DJI is taking ideas from competitors and updating our software accordingly. "Follow" would be a pretty nice feature too.

DJ I will not release any ground station or additional features. once SDK is release third party should be able to create software with some of the features you guys are talking about don't expect DJI to release anything soon. But they will be releasing some hardware for the inspire.that should be interesting

@pidetectives - I'm looking FW to seeing the hardware for sure. That said, the rest of the industry seems to be out-pacing DJI on the software side. Also, GoPro is rumored to be working on their own drone (which at this point seems like a no-brainer given their mature stage of growth). There are a ton of companies nipping at DJI's heels - the next 12 months should be interesting.

I would disagree.. there are already 3rd party solutions in public beta testing which allow you tons of features... like Autoflight Logic. You can sign up for beta testing there, I do betatest and it works really great.

About the DJI version of promised features - if you check the SDK forum you can see that orbit poi and other functions are supported by the new SDK, so I hope in weeks/months we will see an app released which will support some of the functions integrated in the SDK.

anyway, I waited long enough.. Give us the promised stuff so we can use the I1 as advertised..

Overall I'm very happy with the Inspire1 - a superb machine

As with anything, the upcoming Ground Station features will most likely be releasing various autonomous features over the course of multiple firmware updates.  I know this thread was a graveyard thread, but I would like to mention that the two features asked about, ORBIT and CABLE CAM will be available with the 3rd Party's Autonomous features, made by AutoFlightLogic.  You can see their full list of features and how to purchase them accordingly: https://autoflightlogic.com/beta/autopilotdji

I have BETA tested each of these features and found them to be great.  I am excited to see DJI's version of them as well.  It is really nice to finally be able to expose the full features of the Inspire 1.

Thanks,
Mike
