Honestly - it's not as pretty as I expected. But this is not the most important thing for me and all the capabilities that this little drone can deliver are truly why I am impressed. Most probably than not - the  Mavic Air will by my next drone.

I really like the looks. More sleek than the Mavic Pro and folded, totally pocketable. I wonder how long it will be before one of the toy drone makers copies it - which will be a shame, but is probably inevitable.

Love the small size and how it folds too! But the vents positioning make it look for me just... weird.

I also think that making the remote sticks removable is one of the best ideas they’ve had too, I was so worried about damaging the sticks of my MP remote I bought one of those protectors, but it makes the remote quite large and odd-shaped with or without that. Making the sticks removable and storing them in the remote, which then becomes about the size and shape of a glasses box is a great innovation - sometimes the little things are the real winners!

Great addition to the  DJI family. Love that it's ultra portable, I always wanted a small but high-end drone, I hope I'll be able to test it one day

Its a shame all these controllers aren’t cross-compatible - totally understand why, with all the different and evolving technologies they employ across all the drones, but it would be great to only have to carry one controller and just pair it with each drone as needed. Perhaps an idea for DJI to make a single remote that has all the capabilities and can pair to any of their drones - could charge a nice amount for it and I bet they’d sell a fair few as lots of people have multiple drones!

Does the Mavic Air have dual IMU and compass redundancy built in like the Pro?

I have checked the stats again and the Mavic Air also shoots 2.7K at 60p - that is cool!

I somehow doubt it. But you could always check somewhere like YouTube and see if anyone’s done a mod (and if they haven’t, now that the air is out, they might decide to figure out how)

I know both use enhanced WiFi but the range difference between the Spark and the Mavic Air has increased FOUR times using 2.4ghz in CE compliant areas... That increase can not be down to just the position of the antenna. Or is it?

Their IMU calibration video shows that it has dual IMU (well, it shows multiple accelerometers!), but I’ve not been able to find out about the compass yet, interested to know that too, but i suspect it has!

Perfect. And do you know if it has a hard line connection between the RC and phone? Or do we actually need an OTG?

I remember seeing the pilot flying it with a connection but that was using CrystalSky by the look of it - forget it - I remember seeing RC connector leads in the box - inc lightning

Just like the Mavic Pro, it has a cable connection to the phone, included in the box. I don’t know if it also has WiFi, but I doubt they’d do both. I suspect the 4K video potential means it needs a cable to cope with the amount of data.

Now I tell you what is tempting with this drone... DJI FPV goggles, that could be seriously fun. If DJI want people to test this, I would HAPPILY volunteer!

I'm actually liking the sound of this drone more than I initially thought... The more I research it's capabilities the more impressed I become - the upgrades over the Spark are literally raw!

Actually in the beginning you could pair a different remote with a Phantom. Don't know why they wouldn't make that as an option now...

I thought 'Spark Pro' during release event now I'm not too sure - may be just the 'Air' as it looks like a whole new design to me but we must repsect what the designers have called it and that is fundamentally a Mavic.
