Just like the spark you can make your own go app with the option " force to FCC"

Unfortunately, no such a thing for MA.

Hey don’t be so ridiculous, of course there is simply because there are 95% more people using normal app.
But one advantage they have is if Aircraft malfunctions they have a warranty if they had Care refresh and they recover their drone they are covered, unlike anyone who decides to hack the app.

Well, with appropriate sanitation of the black box data for the privacy purposes, how DJI can tell what app was used?

I think if your claiming warranty you need to show dji your flight log, I’ve seen one case on Mavic Pro forum were dji refused warranty on the basis that user was using hacked app, I’m sure they a system that can tell which app you are using we see this a lot with the use of Litchi app.

Hi Yuumee, Mavic air uses the enhanced WiFi video transmission system, it can reach to 4000m in FCC mode when the environment is available. Please refer to the specs below.[view_image]

Is there a way to switch modes from FCC to CE to MIC?

The range would probably be around 1.5 KM in real world conditions

Around 2km in real world. Tried it!

Just did a range test and got up to 2 KM before it lost connection entirely. Pretty good considering my mavic pro can only reach 3 KM

I just got chance to try my Mavic Air yesterday, when I fly up around 90m. my iPhone screen telling me the signal is lost and image is blank. I'm flying at night time, does this make any difference? How can I get better transmission?

I noticed Apple were selling the air with the 4km range listed.  So I opened up a chat and specifically asked about transmit power. They said it's correct. 4km according to the Au shop info.

Either we are not getting CE restrictions, or they just did a copy and paste from the US shop aka FCC regs.

I kind of want to know for sure though. Wish there was someone in Oz that could actually test.

Well, you always have to keep in mind that these product pages on company websites are written by marketing guys who mainly interested in selling their products because their salary is based on commissions.
So it usually goes like this: the marketing guys are in a meeting with the engineers and maybe a manager or two. They ask for the product capabilities and the engineers give some realistic numbers, even if they are odd. Then marketing guys probably say that these odd numbers are not good for marketing the product. And because managers are their (encouraging the engineers) the engineers start to talk of hypothetical capabilities and the marketing guys pick that up and write it down somewhere. Then the meeting end and time goes past and the page has to be created. The marketing guys check their notes and then take numbers that sound better. Because they want to sell...

so 4km is very likely the most ideal case

took it out at marina barrage today. went out to sea for about 600m+  then the connection got a bit unstable (just about flying above some ships/tankers ). Didn't want to risk it much so turned around. There was another gentleman there who said he gets around 500 - 600m with his mavic pro at that area, may be too much interference from the ships and tankers.. will try again  next week during the Chinese New Year holidays at the same spot.

in the very ideal cases we've seen MA flying  even 5km+ . There is a youtube video somewhere here, still had good signal strength, but turned around due to battery limitation..

Well, 5km+ is impressive. But then again to reach this kind of range the conditions (landscape, wheather, etc.) have to be quite excellent. And also the power output of the RC will have to massive. Think of standing next to leaky microwave oven. Not the healthiest thing to do.
So what I'm trying to say is consider the tradeoffs when going for higher range

yeah, me personally will be more than happy with a 1.5km stable range, nothing more required. I don't see myself flying any further than that..

Its omnidirectional antennas placed on the foldable landing gear help increase signal coverage to deliver a maximum range of up to 2.5 miles (4km)   with 720p real-time video transmission when flying with the remote controller.

That appears to be the most logical explanation from DJI as to why the range is greater than the Spark though 4KM in FCC and 2KM in CE areas are yet to be seen... And I hope that the small mAh in the battery has enough juice to sustain a safe return on a five mile round flight in modetate winds as using Sport mode to reach 42.5MPH will massively drain that battery and knock the max 21 minutes (16-18 in reality in normal flight) to less than 15 minutes quite easily. My biggest concern flying a WiFi only drone one or two miles away (other than losing VLOS) will be how sensitive the signal is to transmission interference - not sure what the speed is in p-mode and if the drone has dual compass redundancy to help prevent the potential of a fly away. Once more, this drone does not seem to be designed for long distance flying, as is the case with the Spark using the same enhanced WiFi transmission.

About 20.8 mph in p mode. And if you're in or near a city, it's proven on my end to be terrible with signal transmission.

no need for huck just use a fake gps app on any android phone and set it to usa then start the dji go 4 and make sure you get 11 channels instead of 13 which is for CE.
Then disable the fake gps app or use an iphone for example to start the dji go 4 app but this time you will get a message that you are in europe .. something about changing wifi signals bla bla just say cancel and you will still have the FC 11 channels. just remember every time you start the app to say no to the prompt otherwise you will have to start the process all over again.

In Singapore with Air, I can confirm you won't get over 500m in city. Too much WIFI interference. I've tried with all kinds of drone. Unless you fly out to sea maybe you can get 500m+.

Currently in the EU, so I’m certain that I’ll be in CE now.
But when I travel to South Africa, what mode would I be in?

If you have 11 Channels in 2.4 Ghz you are in FCC mode, if you have 13 Channels you are in CE.

for me personally, the 4Hawks Raptor SR gave me a smoother and more reliable video feed. but i didnt get a massive range boost, went from 1300m to 1500/1600m. with that being said i was flyinng 50m off the ground in an urban area using FCC mode, i got 2500m when being at 200m altitude and trying my best to point the antennnas in the right direction.
