If by chance you live on the very top of a treeless mountain with no other wifi or other electronic interference then its theoretical possible to achieve 4k and that's only if its sunny out with no wind... If you live in a normal suburb then you can expect to get about 1000 feet....

The range would probably be around 1.5 KM in real world conditions

True, with structures and interference.
One of th videos I've been binge watching was a distance test. 4000m easy but there's nothing around him!

“Enhanced WiFi” not  too clear on what that is yet but the WiFi connection is only from your mobile device to the remote which operates at the standard 2.4/5.8 GHz, not the aircraft. If you are using your mobile device only your range is only going to be 80 to 100 meters. The antennas built into the leg extensions of the aircraft are further away from the main body of the AC which supposedly allows for a longer and more reliable signal up to 4K when using the remote/mobile device combo

Wait , if the phone connects to the controller via WiFi, the controller acts like a router from the phone to the drone right? Meaning that the range would be unaffected?

Wait , if the phone connects to the controller via WiFi, the controller acts like a router from the phone to the drone right? Meaning that the range would be unaffected?

Your phone connects to the controller with a cable. It passes commands from the DJI Go App to the controller using a USB connection. The controller can modify these commands, e.g; when the sticks are moved.

The controller connects to the drone using WiFi, enhanced WiFi or OccuSync - They are all variations of WiFi with different types of modulation and spectrum use to improve the performance.

The drone sends video and flight telemetry data to the controller which might display some data (depending on the controller type) and the controller sends this data to the phone using the USB link where the DJI Go app displays the video data and telemetry data on it's display.

It is possible to use a phone/tablet (running the DJI Go app) without the controller by using the phone WiFi  but range is very restricted due to the weak, non-directional signal of the phone's WiFi.

Most people seem not to bother with this 'feature'.

Just fly safe and have fun

Good question, especially since the Spark also uses wifi and has a lower range

the spark does not channel hop or use diversity antennas.. the air does thats why

I have flown my MA for a long time and conditions off my back deck are perfect at night (no people\interference, miles of LOS).  I can reliably get about 2km but it gets iffy after that.  I would highly doubt you can fly an MA much farther than 2km under any circumstances.

Can you send me a PM about it for me too? I loose the connection sometimes around few hundred meters wih my Phantom 4 Pro too. The problem is the same, too weak signal in Europe.

Exactly. I think Occusync just means it has a more powerful output.  Probably close to 1 watt.

30dbm is 1 watt on 5.8ghz for the Mavic Air.
And it will actually pass 4km.
Its battery is its limitation...
